Vrabel was approached about his or the Patriots intentions about trading for Cooper Kupp or Myles Garrett.

His pissed off reply, and I'm paraphrasing..................

"What is it with you guys? This is still the 2024 football season. Everyone is still under contract until the new season begins. We have the Super Bowl this weekend and that's the final game of the season. I will not discuss other teams' players."

Basically, every trade rumor or free agent look/see is bullshit. Straight from the pit bull's fangs.

Just read that the Patriots had an extended sit down with this kid from TCU. In 2024 he had 62 receptions, 1043 yards and 9 TDs.
He also caught the winning TD in the Senior Bowl.

Plus-sized frame with functional play strength to box out defenders and win in traffic
Soft hands and natural ball skills, excelling in contested catch situations
Savvy route runner who understands how to set up defenders and find soft spots in zone coverage
Demonstrates body control and spatial awareness to work the sidelines and end zone
Reliable chain-mover with a knack for moving the sticks on crucial downs
Versatile enough to align both outside and in the slot, offering scheme flexibility
Shows willingness as a blocker in the run game, using his frame effectively
Productive against top-tier competition, indicating potential to contribute early at the next level

So...a good #2 or 3.

At first I was questioning level of competition but TCU actually played some quality opponents. Worth a look for sure

Bech's ideal scheme fit would be in a West Coast or timing-based offense that can leverage his route-running precision and size in the intermediate areas of the field. He has the tools to develop into a solid WR2 or high-end WR3 in the right system, with the versatility to contribute both as an outside receiver and from the slot. Teams emphasizing possession receiving and red zone efficiency should view Bech as a potential key contributor to their passing attack.

BTW, What I was reading was from ESPN and not Boston.

Starting to believe that this staff is a bit more on the ball than I was giving credit for.

Key free-agent needs

Offensive line
Receiver
Edge rusher

This being said if they get Sweat and Higgin or LT they can make some headway in the draft
There's no question that adding significant parts is critical.

If I could make the magic, I'd do the following.......

Sign FA LT Ronnie Stanley (BAL). He's the critical anchor needed to protect Maye's blind side. (45/$25M $75M guaranteed)

Trade #4 for LB Micah Parsons (DAL) Parsons is due $24M in 2005, the fifth year of his rookie contract. Before completing the trade, I'd make sure that he was signed beyond to 2030 and rewrite his contract for 5/$170M. Yep, He's a game wrecker and well worth $37M a year. I'd also guarantee $125M of it. Parsons can shift everywhere from the middle to the edge and will blow up an offense.

Tee Higgins is looking for $35M a year. He's been a dinged a few times and spending that kind of money makes me a bit nervous. I think we could get Chris Godwin for 4/$120M with half guaranteed.

That being said, I just spent $92M of the available $123M, leaving me with $31M of which I must set aside $15M for the draftees. Okay, now comes the hard part. Patch work on the rest of the holes.

I think the best place to spend 2/$10M would be on Nick Vannet TE (TENN) a 6'6" 260# guy willing to block, lead a rush or take a hit to get a first down or TD.

It's a hell of a lot of money to spend, but just doing this would reset the finish from 3-14 to 8-9. Draft really well and maybe trade around a bit and jumping up to 11-6 is not completely beyond the reach of this team.

Suddenly, mock drafts are changing.

Originally there was a mix with everyone saying that the Patriots would take one of three different positions

Will Campbell OT
Abdul Carter Edge
Travis Hunter CB/WR

Now, at least three have the Patriots trading down to #7 with the Raiders and picking up a second round or third round pick.

Makes one wonder if the "RUMOR" has some facts behind it.

I KNOW that nothing is in stone. Way too early. Doesn't stop teams from feeling each other out. Everyone is saying that the Raiders want Shedeur Sanders.

My brother in law was listening to a station while running around with my wife and and sister in law yesterday. He says that the NY Jets have inquired about what it would take for them to get Milton.

Have no idea what the hell he was listening to, but if that's true i hope it cost them their first and second round picks through 2035, plus Sauce Gardner and Garrett Wildon.

I'm ok with trading down to #7. One of the top 2 OTs should still be there. Naturally it all depends on what NE does or doesn't do in FA/trades.

This makes sense they can grab LT in FA, then draft Mykel Williams UGA 1st another O Linemen in RD2

Mike Giardi made a very interesting suggestion about what the Patriots should do in free agency.

Sign several middle-tier WRs like Darius Slayton, Keenan Allen and Amari Cooper and maybe a mental case, who might be a cheapie, Stefon Diggs.
Make the trade for Cooper Kupp.
Keep Pop Douglas, Keyshon Boutte and Ja'lynn Polk.
Let the experienced guys come in and give the kids some pointers and see if they can improve. Those new WRs will all be excellent targets for Maye and help him develop into a much better QB.

Then spend some real money on getting the best LT available and the best DL or Edge and don't be afraid to 'overpay' so that the tax situation isn't an issue.

Set aside a fair offer for DJ Reed the CB of the NY Jets who will be released very shortly. He indictaed to the NY Post that he wouldn't be adverse to playing in NE.

If they can pull off anything close to this they can look at the draft in an entirely different way and trade down. Pick up an extra pick in the second or third round and use the first round pick to grab TE Tyler Warren. A guy who isn't afraid to block, catch over the middle and even play QB in the Wildcat.

With $131M, the Patriots have a lot of flexibility to really make hay in free agency.
