I preferred the traditional January 1st bowl games. The playoffs have destroyed New Years Day. Then, there's the transfer portal where some ditch their teams and don't play in the playoffs. They should dump the transfer portal. College kids with full-ride scholarships shouldn't get a salary either. Prior to the portal, anyone who transferred had to sit out a semester before joining the team.
Coaches should coach for free too. And not be able to leave for another job if they are under contract.

Well we certainly ended up with better semis than we've ever had and i personally emboss seeing new and different teams get a shot even if we ended up with 2 blue bloids playing for the title
No way...the last two years have had better semi-final games IMO:

2024: Michigan beats Bama in OT; Washington beats Texas 37-31

2023: TCU beats Michigan 51-45; Georgia beats Ohio 42-41

I think this years Semi-Finals are a lot like these:

2020: LSU over OK 63-28; Clemson over Ohio 29-23

2018 might be the best ever playoff, if you include the national title game where Bama puts in Tua at halftime and comes back:

2018: Georgia over OK 54-48 (2OT); Bama over Clemson 24-6

I don't get why he's saying the two biggest upsets of the season are now completely meaningless. They still happened, they were still huge upsets.
It does put college football in line with every other sport. There is merit to it but it also lost what makes college football special imo.

Just go ahead and expand it to 16 teams and be done with it.

Oh yeah… and do away with about half of those meaningless bowl games that no one goes to as well.

As I said well before 12 teams became a thing, eight is enough.

Still struggling with a team that can't win their won conference being crowned National Champ.

Still a fan of 4, but we'll never go back to that, but do think a retraction to 8 seems possible.

The ratings for the Penn State/Notre Dame game were almost half of what was expected. They have to seriously consider playoff fatigue in which college football is now delving deeply into the NFL playoff season.
what is so wrong with the NFL playoff system?

Too many teams.

At most it should be 8 teams. We've had below .500 teams make the playoffs and a 9-7 team win it all.

Teams that have shown over a 17 week season that they can't win more than 60% of their games should have no business playing for a title in any sport.

Guess entitled to your opinion, but below .500 teams is kind of rare and if the 9-7 team won it all through a likely gauntlet didn't they deserve it?

why even bother with playoffs and just have the top 2 teams face off?

So in your opinion 4 weeks > 18 weeks?

IMO yes, I like playoffs and the winner of the playoffs is who I think is entitled to be called champs

As I said, if one team has the best record after 18 games why even have playoffs based on your "logic"? Just give them the title. If more than one tied then have those teams square off for the title.

The only problem this year was the seeding.

Arizona State and Boise State didn't deserve 3 and 4 seeds.

Guaranteed spots for conference champs are good but guaranteed byes for the top 4 are obviously dumb when we have super conferences.

The more "traditional" college football fans probably hated this setup though because most of them would prefer voting for the best team on paper over settling stuff on the field.

Never said the Regular Season 'champ' is the champ.

Merely said teams need to earn a chance to even be there.

Why does a shit awful team that can't win 60% of their games even deserve a chance?

And playoff clowns would prefer a 64 team shitshow like the NCAA Men's Basketball tournament.

I'm hoping to make it even better they go to 16 teams. No byes can be done in same time as the 12 teamer. Home games in round 1 don't even need to add any bowls to the mix. also with no byes the seeding will make more sense.

Almost too easy a switch.
I like this but with they would scrap the conference championship games and compress the schedule much like the lower divisions.

The on-campus home-game atmosphere was awesome. The 4 teams with byes were robbed of that.

I would play the first 2 rounds at the home field of the higher seeded team. I would also re-seed it after the first round or maybe each round.

It doesn't appear that the final four was a ratings boom. Although, they did add several games for additional ratings.

Why do you think the ratings were down? All four teams are traditional blue blood programs with a BIG following.

The ratings sucked because of when the games were played. They couldn't play on Saturday because of the NFL. It needs to end sooner.

Also, non-holiday mid-week travel on a weeks' notice is difficult. Also, few people can afford the time or money to actually travel to follow their team.
