Verse has fallen a bit, and there's questions about McCarthy (when arent there questions about qb's), so both could still wind up at 18 or so.

We aren't making the playoffs.

Verse hasn't really fallen. He is just sorta all over the board. We have a long ways to go before the draft so I shouldn't say we won't have the ability to draft any of these guys. Especially when it comes to a QB they can drop after the top few. I should say unlikely with where we will be picking now and current draft position. We may not make the playoffs (we don't know that yet) but we won't we are unlikely picking in the top 12.

At this point I'm thinking 15-18.

I think with Daniels you're going to see some teams in the pick 5, 6, 7 range who really need a QB but wont be able to get the top 2. I also think teams are going to find it impossible to trade up if Harrison is also seen as a prize. Or if a team needs an OT.
If the Patriots keep up the the great losing streak, they have #1 or #2.

They WILL NOT use it. They WILL trade it. There will be multiple suitors for it.

They don't really fit the normal profile of a trade down candidate imo but if they keep Belichick then I'll admit that anything is possible.

Patriots will take Caleb Williams and run with it if they pick #1.
Assuming Caleb Williams doesnt force a trade. The team with maybe the worst offense and the worst QB situation in the league isnt going to trade away a franchise QB contract from a draft class thats supposed to be great with QBs. Sean Payton himself called Caleb Williams a generational prospect. Its run to the podium territory with him, probably Maye, and Marvin Harrison Jr. I think its going to be really hard for any team to trade these top picks unless its with one of these other teams with a top pick.

I did just see a mock draft with the Patriots trading up to the #1 pick. That wont happen. They arent in a position to trade up imo. But with the Patriots schedule they have at least a 50/50 shot of getting the #1 pick.

If Kraft keeps BB around, he'll shy away from misfiring on a WB or WR. N'Keal Harry and Mc Jones have left a distinct bad taste in his mouth and he will not allow himself to taste it again. The perfect move would be to try to trade down to #7 with Washington and pick up #7 and #39 & #40 which would perfectly match the #2 value of 1500. More than likely there will be a LT or a QB still sitting and waiting and Bill have three second picks to load up on offense. An even better move might be to trade #7 to the Rams and get #13 and #66. Bill will do anything to save hiumself the embarrassments that he's had over the past five years.

Then again he could what really makes him comfortable and splurge the #2 on whoever he thinks is the best defensive player available and stick with his "Defense win Championships" mentality.

I do think keeping Belichick around changes New England's timetable. If he isnt let go, he is going to want to win right away. Take one of the top 3 OTs in rd1, lure in a vet QB, fill out the roster with a bunch of draft prospects.

Without Belichick, I think this situation is fairly analogous to when Arizona had the number 1 pick. Arizona had a decent defense but the offense and passing game was a mess. They took Kyler Murray. I think next year's draft will likely have 2 QBs ranked higher than Murray coming out as prospects. If Belichick isnt on the Patriots next year, the Patriots draft a QB 100 out of 100 times.

Its a bit early to judge the exact nature of next year's draft but BPA defensive player available seems like a mid to late 1st round kind of thing. I think you could see 9 out of the first 10 picks being offense. Nabers and Bowers were two of the best players in the SEC. Maybe there is an argument for Bowers dropping because he might be 10-15 lbs under what you would want but I'm not sure how many defensive players rise up.

As an aside, if the Patriots do let BB go, I think the Chargers would be foolish to not try and lure him over to their team. Belichick can at least run a defense. Staley is a hot mess.

Agree. If cheater stays, anything is possible. But any sane, rational front office or HC takes Williams or Maye there.

Patriots aren't passing on Caleb Williams. Nothing to discuss about that, IMO. With or without Belicheat (most likely without) if they pick #1, it is Caleb Williams.

From what I've seen of this season - the guy most likely to be successful as an NFL QB first - or the guy most ready to play in the pros - is Bo Nix. The guy makes really good decision as situations unfold during a play. Williams isn't there yet - and may not get there.

I think Nix is developmental IMO. He looked really good this year, but against the best competition he faced I don't feel that he really excelled.

The Ducks lost two games - both to the undefeated Huskies by a FG. In the two games Nix threw for 5 TDs - 1 Interception - almost 600 yards passing and took one sack. IMO - Nix moved passed his stereotypes of past seasons and made great decisions with the football. It's knowing what to do during a play on the field that makes him stand out and I think that is the best pro trait for a QB to have.

Ya, he put up numbers but the bottom line is he didn't get it done when it mattered. Other than Washington and Oregon I think the Pac 12 was overrated this year.

I am probably tainted by his time at Auburn though when I watched him a lot and he frankly sucked.

I'm not a big Williams fan. Seems immature at best under pressure. Id prefer Maye of the two. But Im interested in McCarthy and Daniels is growing on me. Im not sure I'd take a qb this year early right now.

If you need a QB this is the year. Very good QB class. Williams is generational. Just hope he gets his mind mentally ready and doesn’t demand things. Turned off by that but the guy can make every throw possible. He’s elite in terms of football tools and development.

Yeah, that's probably the best way to say it. As Lynch says, "his mentals ain't right."
