The hype train is coming to a halt. Hard to produce if you can’t make contact.

he really needs to layoff on the outside pitches. And while he has strikeout issues it seems to be more plate discipline than an inability to make contact. Even with his aggressiveness, his contact and whiff rates are nowhere near Gallo level bad.

Triple and home run along with 6 RBIs for today, now up to .258/.311/.470 (99 wRC+). That's still a solid MLB debut especially for a middle infielder.

13 HR and .235 av. Slowed significantly from that hot start.

He will be fine imo.
No doubt he's got the god given ability. He runs faster than anyone, he throws harder than anyone, he hits the ball harder than anyone. But baseball can humble you because so much of it is mental. You start missing balls and it gets in your head. Going to be fun and interesting watching him in the future.

He's still got work to do on improving contact/cutting down on strikeouts, but he's walking at a much higher rate and getting more quality contact. So far, this season has been a sizeable step in the right direction.

Yeah if you extrapolated what he has done so far this season over the whole year that's a pretty good season. But I've been watching the last few days and the impact he has when he's on base is amazing. When he gets to third base (which happens a lot because he steals) if a guy is on first the other team pretty much gives him second because they don't want De La Cruz stealing home. The guy that usually hits in front or behind him, Spencer Steer never stole bases in the minors but in the last season and a month in the majors he has 25 SB. I don't know if an impact like that is captured anywhere on Baseball Reference but it is fun to watch.

I wonder if Matt McLain is ever coming back? That guy looked real good but I haven't heard anything about him.
