Talent is always an issue but some things are a mindset too. Answer this, do you see a program where the coach doesn’t allow hitting in practice will succeed in the SEC?

I mama the dude succeeded in Pullman Washington

That’s the middle of damn no where

But yeah idk if he did that specifically there

Five years ago, so not recent then? Any teams using his offense this season?

Still impressive his offense got the attention of teams in the NFL.

Wasn't aware of that. Wonder why he hasn't taken the jump to the next level?

He has...he's at USC now. :D

Agree to disagree then, I think most would acknowledge by reputation it’s Riley on offense. Honestly I don’t care, I experienced all I need to of the guy.
Genuinely curious what you have seen or he has done that puts him ahead of even Day let alone every offensive mind in the world.

Is he a really good recruiter able to wipe the floor against a D with much less talent than his O? Absolutely.

I'm in wait and see mode re: Grinch.

I give him a bit of a pass for last year because you can really only rebuild 1 side of the ball in a single off-season. Considering what was already at USC, what he brought with him and what he could get out of the portal, he rightfully concentrated on offense.

Everyone knew USC's defense was going to be bad last year. While the defense was bad, they also had a crazy +22 turnover margin. So that was a positive and says that, at the least, he had some decent schemes.

This year, the defense looks better. They've only forced a couple of turnovers, but they may have already put together more 3 and outs in the 1st 2 games than they did all of last season.

I thought that in the 1st game, he tried to get too cute and called some defenses that his players weren't ready for because they have a lot of guys who were playing their 1st game together. 1 of those defenses led directly to the TD they gave up just before halftime.

I feel better about the defense than I did at this time last year. I don't think they'll be great or even good...but if it's at least serviceable, it will be a welcome improvement and could be enough to get them into the playoff.

Truth be told, I have them both as 1A/1B for the best offensive mind in college football. I think both are great innovators and can teach the game really well. Wish ND caught OSU earlier in the season. I think in 2 weeks that offense will be humming despite looking a bit off vs Indiana.

Being a USC fan you hear more than I do. Any new updates on Bronny, when will he return to the team?

The only thing I've heard is that he'll be able to return and that it could be relatively soon. Not sure what "relatively soon" means though. Relative to Iwuchukwu who came back and played later in the season?

When you have an offense like USCs selling out for turnovers wins you games. The offense likely gets points on 65% of drives. You just have to make sure the defense isn’t giving up points at a 75% clip. Another key playing defense behind a great offense that drives the bus is to really teach the fuck and emphasize the fuck out of red zone stuff. You don’t have to be the 85 Bears on defense to win with what USC brings. 52-38 is still a win.

It's gonna be so damn weird when USC and the others join the BigTen.

Gotta say not a fan of these super conferences. And Stanford/Cal to the ACC makes no sense either.

I like Bob Ryan's idea from the other day on OTH. He said have all this silly conference jumping only be with CFB.

Because to me it just doesn't make any sense to fly Rutgers soccer all the way across the country to play Oregon.

Oh hell yes he is one of the best in CFB......but I'd say more important is hs ability to recruit and being places where it's a little easier to recruit. Not sure how well he (or Day) would do at, say, some school like Pitt.

Is he better than every O mind in the NFL? Seems a bit far fetched but anything possible.

Not reading too much into that Indiana game. You may not have noticed this but I recall after Strouds first game (realize not McCord's first game) many OSU fans wanted him benched. The call was even louder by many after, ironically, McCord started for him and played well vs. Akron. We definitely caught a break facing ND week 3 instead of week 1 like last year.

Didn't like how Ohio State looked week one.

Right now got some concerns when the Buckeyes visit South Bend in a couple weeks.

And damn am I glad CFB is back.

Usually to a fault, ND most seasons gets right into it because of having to schedule as an Independent but the early schedule this year has been ass. I have no idea who they are because they haven’t played anybody yet. That changes this week with NC St.
