If we are trading for 2024 and beyond then those trades don't have to take place now. If the cost is expected to go down after this season them it would be prudent to wait until then. I am not sure if that is the case, but I think it tends to work that way.

There is still a lot of building to do to get this team to a WS.
If the player has multiple years under control and draws trade interest now what would make his value go down this offseason if the same teams are still interested in him

Health has been a factor but of course there are holes No tens generally goes injury free

Will say if garver and Huff ane inadequate at catcher why do we have them? Just play them for now.
Garver did not look like he had a handle defensively last night. Hope they alternate and maybe we do roster a youngster like Foscue. At least later this week if we don’t pick up a bat but I am not too enthused in three regard.

I think they thought Garver was adequate. I think some in the organization simply see Huff as insurance.

The insurance is being called in and between Garver and Huff they will have to be adequate plus

Grossman has to go and Duran and Garver have to pick up some slack. Huff has been performing well in AAA. With enough playing time he might be just what we need. Will see.

So would you do it? If so, what would you offer?
I don't think I would. If we were one great pitcher away like in 2010, I would. We just have too many needs.

The Prescription to make going for it at the deadline worth it would include:

Eovaldi's velocity returning to previous levels and staying there.

Duran getting fixed

Two of Gray, Heaney, Perez getting fixed

Dunning staying good

No more extended slumps from Garcia or Semien

Huff hitting very well

No more prolonged injuries

That’s an impossible list

Best forget the whole thing.

when Seager was out the first time, the offense and rotation were incredible. the only weak spot was the bullpen, which we assumed would be the focus of the trade deadline.

but the offense and rotation have taken a step or two back, and the bullpen is slightly better thanks to Chapman. and now Heim is out too.

just too many needs to patch up now to justify too many trades for a 2023 run.

I tend to think you're right.

I don't think this is trade related at all. He has struggled lately and he had 2 strikeouts today, before being pulled.

CY is really in a bad spot. There is no way he can decide not to be active in this trade market, but he can see the writing on the wall. About the only thing he can do is make less costly moves to make it appear he hasn't given up. Let's see how he handles this.

Maybe but I still think we should pursue long term adds when they come available and not just depend on the offseason
I agree if long term means we will have 4 or 5 years of control left after this year.

I do think trades can be made in the offseason though, and they are usually a little less costly.

Rangers are 11-11 this month with two games to go
And that followed a 14-13 month of June. So, as of now, they are 1 game over .500 for the summer. That doesn't spell postseason success.
