I'm sure Chuck and Buck will still be telling their audience to relax and this is still early come tomorrow morning's show.

We have so many brain washed media in this market
I really think Chuck is fair. I think he just didn’t grow up here so he doesn’t get the frustration of Mariners fans and he is an optimist. Bucky however, is another story.

I think you are selling the Mariners PR team short. They can spin just about anything to the Mariner masses.
I don’t know man. We have had several gut punches that they have spun into something, but they were throughly destroyed this series and you can’t sell it. I have always said pitching wins in the playoffs but you need an offense to get to the playoffs, well neither showed up against the division leaders.

There is still a lot of apologist in the Seattle media...unfortunately.
Why? It doesn't make sense to me.

I even have a friend who is very casual, has a family, keeps sending me various screenshots of where we were this time last year who is trying to convince me there is a chance.

Okay, even if there is a chance, we just got demolished by two teams we'd be playing in the playoffs.

I know we might disagree on this a bit, but I blame ownership more than I blame Dipoto. I don't think he would've traded for Teoscar or Wong if the team had actually given him money to spend in free agency. My biggest gripe with Dipoto is more that he makes excuses on behalf of ownership.

You know, I wasn't expecting Teoscar to hit like he did in 2020 or 2021. I would've been fine with how he hit in 2022. I know I already mentioned it in the other thread, but it just makes no sense to me how players regress so substantially here.

Off the top of my head I couldn't remember if Toronto plays in a hitter friendly park, so I looked at his career splits and he actually hits better on the road than at home.

I don't even want to torture myself by looking at all the vet free agents we could've landed on a one year deal who are outperforming him and wouldn't have cost prospects.

Weird start to his career for sure. I do think his stuff is really good though.

It was either Dave Sims or Aaron Goldsmith who mentioned he throws a number of different sliders (whatever that means) and has been experimenting with a curve.

I think he's still just figuring it out.
Yeah I heard both of them talking about that with Miller but Smoltz and Schilling both keep saying quit trying to make a sweeper a thing. Really I don’t understand how you can throw multiple sliders, you got a two seem and 4 seem slider. I guess you can add a different amount of fingers but damn you are begging for surgery if you starting doing that.

I know this isn't the point you were trying to make, but it made me curious how the elimination of the shift has impacted team batting averages. I don't have the patience to add up all the numbers and calculate what the total impact is, but the median team this year is hitting .249. Last year it was .241. Doesn't seem to have had the impact many were expecting.

On a lighter note, for those of you who have a subscription to The Athletic, I thought this was a great piece on Aaron Goldsmith.

I've given him a ton of shit, but this article really put things into perspective to me and makes me appreciate him a lot more.

If you don't have a subscription, the summary if that he essentially went from barely being able to make ends meet to getting a broadcast offer by the Mariners at 29 years old. He turned down an offer from the Cardinals - his home team and objectively a better baseball market - to stay in Seattle because this is where they are happy.

On money, yes. But no owner tells the GM/President what players to trade for and Dips record for trading for bats is worse than a Mariners hitter's.
Why? It doesn't make sense to me.
From what I have heard in the past is because it is a tight committee in Seattle media and they don't want to get the cold shoulder from management/ownership. They have to play nice.

Divish ain't afraid to call it how it is
Eh. He does say things, because he isn't a Mariners fan himself or a fan of his job, but he doesn't just nail them as needed in my opinion. I want a royal roasting. Call out names and point fingers.
