I think losing the $40 million that would have came with the supermax might just be the best thing in the long run for Morant. If that’s not a lesson I don’t know what is. As for us, I’ll never be a very big fan of either, though I am pulling for Morant to get it together.

Hopefully the public shaming is enough to get his attention. I doubt a max vs a supermax contract will be that meaningful.

$40 million dollars is still $40 million dollars even to rich people. Every little consequence helps the people around him with reminders. He just needs to get the right people. Additionally, I would imagine that when we talk about the elite of the elite in sports there’s often a view of these contracts as status symbols. How many of us have our salaries posted all over the world? I think among other consequences and the needed shifting of priorities and growing up that this could be positively impactful for him. I will own that I’m biased here because I don’t want to see people fuck themselves up. So much of this is hope and a wish.
