CF gold gloves > 3B gold gloves. I hate Andruw Jones but the guy was transcendent in the field.
All time great CFers is a much deeper pool than all time great 3B.

I am not defending the difference, just trying to explain the thought process…

Andruw Jones was among the best players in the NL for a decade. He was the best defensive CF in the league and could hit a little bit, too. His production fell off dramatically when he hit 30, though.

Than you are also aware of why Giants fans love him for his time with the Reds.
He didn’t beat the Tigers in the WS with Cincinnati, that I know.

I remember nothing remarkable from his Reds days tbh. Dusty Baker prolly destroyed a few young arms, I assume.

He made a big error late in a 0-0 game in the SF/Cin series that lead to the Giants winning the game on their way to coming back from down 0-2 in the Div Series.

Can someone explain how Rolen is superior to Andruw Jones?
I do think Andruw was better from 97-07, but that's pretty much the extent of his career value while Rolen was still a good player for a few more years. Rolen comes out ahead in career WAR, but it's fairly close (69.9 to 67.0) and both were pretty close in plate appearances. I'd say Jones was the better fielder (and probably the best defensive player of my lifetime), but Rolen was a better hitter (122 wRC+ to 111 is a pretty big gap). Both played important positions.

Andruw deserves to be in as well.

Okay.

Same reason Huston Street is my favorite closer.

I get it.

Ryan Howard had four top 5 finishes and two more top 10 finishes. Guess he's a HOFer.

Considering his career fell off a cliff after that, no. But you knew you were making a dishonest argument.

Another perspective I consider is, was anyone afraid to see Scott Rolen at the plate? Was he striking fear into opponents? It's ok to not vote someone into the HOF, if nobody is worthy. You can skip over Rolen in the history of baseball and not lose anything. The Hall has just lost so much luster/prestige of late.

Or, you know, it shows how much MVP voting has changed. Rolen played a decent chunk of his prime on some pretty lousy Phillies teams at a time when voters put more stock into team performance and triple crown stats.

Was anyone afraid of Brooks Robinson at the plate?

Rolen had a higher career OPS+ than Beltre and Robinson while being regarded as one of the greatest defensive 3rd baseman of all-time. His OPS+ is also tied with Molitor and only a few points behind Santo. Arenado's only two points ahead right now and unless he falls off a cliff, he's probably going into the HOF.

Mike Greenberg is on the radio now talking about this. It's nothing against Rolen and McGriff but because there's a whole layer of much better players not getting in the votes have to go somewhere and so we end up with these guys.

He also didn't know how to solve it, but in the end it's just a museum. And right now it's a bs museum.

Exactly. Rolen was on those Phillies teams before that Alien ship came and visited Tito Francona and gave him the secret to managing.

That loss of luster was bound to happen when MLB ignored PED use forever and the baseball writers decided to ultimately only hold the players accountable for an environment the MLB not only allowed to evolve but even encouraged it riding the wave of McGwire vs Sosa post strike.
