No. It goes to Goodell or whoever he appoints to hear the appeal if he does not do so himself. After that if the union is unhappy it could in theory go to a federal court but that is unlikely IMO unless Goodell does something drastic
No. He could start to sit out whatever the appeal yields but the 6 games is not valid at that point. If it goes to court, whomever brings it to court will likely ask for a stay of the suspension and it likely will be granted. If, however, they don’t ask for that because of the year 1 vs year 2 salary issue, Watson serves whatever the appeal yielded immediately. I imagine As part of the matter they could ask for the court to reimburse him for monetary damages of the suspension if the matter goes their way and he already served the suspension. That wouldn’t help the Browns but it could get him some of his money back I guess.I'm not sure of all the details or order of operations here, but I think there are several things on the table. The league appeals and decides the suspension should be a year. Watson challenges and it goes to Federal Court. In this case, couldn't Watson proceed to sit out the 6 games as originally decided by the judge. It's possible that the federal court could rule by the time he's done with those 6.... If they haven't ruled yet, he could begin playing, but any game he plays could be applied to the next year. Is that even possible?
I don’t like the fine part of it. Money lost due to suspension is appropriate, but a fine? Does he get a bigger fine because he makes more money? That’s not appropriate IMO. So knowing the next guy could be on a one year league min8mum contract the fine really can’t be more than what, $100K or so? Why even bring it into the equation
It won't go to federal court unless Watson pushes it and said court agrees to hear it. It's quite possible the court asks if the NFL is violating the CBA and denies to hear it, or a lower court rules in favor of Watson only to have a higher court overrule the lower court.I thought I heard if the NFL appeals, that this is going to Federal Court which means his current status of being suspended, is no longer the case. He is eligible week 1 to play. If the Federal court is busy, it could be a year before they get to his case, allowing him to play this entire year before the case is even heard. If that is the case, and say he gets suspended for a year after the federal court case, his $1 million dollars he makes this year as salary outside his signing bonus, isn't what is going to be hit, it will be next years $45 million dollars that is at risk.
Was I not hearing this correct?
this wasn’t at that kind of a massage parlor. What you are describing is what Kraft did. Two consenting adults. yes it’s a crime in most places but nowhere near the level of what Watson didPardon my ignorance but hasn't Watson denied all allegations regarding forcing anybody to do anything and everything that happened was consensual? Isn't that why there are no criminal charges? There's no evidence?
I work with a guy that gets handy's at massage parlors all the time. Seems pretty common.
Money lost on year one is nothing in this case though.I don’t like the fine part of it. Money lost due to suspension is appropriate, but a fine? Does he get a bigger fine because he makes more money? That’s not appropriate IMO. So knowing the next guy could be on a one year league min8mum contract the fine really can’t be more than what, $100K or so? Why even bring it into the equation
Precedent is precedent. You can’t set the fine at $10 M because Watson is getting $230M. The next guy may not be getting that. That is why most fines are a joke to a lot of these guys, because they need to be the same for everyone.Money lost on year one is nothing in this case though.
I don’t think the league has any concerns about it going to court. What would the specific legal argument be that would concern the league Knowing they have an agreed upon CBA in place and assuming they don’t violate the terms of that agreement? The NFLPA/Watson’s team should propose a deal to the appeal which is 7 games + the Houston game + significant fine and treatment.
So essentially 8 games, a big fine and he goes to treatment. They dont want this going to court, Watson or the NFL
Yea, this dude can’t be serious.there are no words
I actually work with a couple women on health care who started out as massage therapists. And every single one says the same thing.
First. They absolutely believe everything that was alleged about Watson. They all knew the type and they knew once they had a guy making an appointment with them that was 100% familiar with the way everything worked and had obviously had a bunch of massages, but was going to a new therapist it wasn't because he was looking for a massage, he wanted somebody to touch his weenie.
And just as importantly second. She says all of those women that were telling their stories were lying through their teeth. All these massage therapists saying they were shocked by his behavior and/or that they had never seen anyone do that before. All the women I know say men are pigs and guys do that stuff all the time. Completely shameless. But that's why all of my acquaintances are in different careers now, maybe these are just the lucky ones who besides Watson had really never had that happen. But the people I know don't believe it.
IMO 10 is the lowest.8-10 games probably?
Mine is 17IMO 10 is the lowest.
Most likely true.Mine is 17
MaybeMost likely true.
Looks like Goodell wants a year but definitely at least 12 since week 12 the Browns plays the Texans.IMO 10 is the lowest.
I say 10 minimum, because the judge only gave 6, but knowing the league was calling for a year it's definitely in play.Maybe
Depends
Possibilities
I just don't like his attitude through all this.and other than athletically, I don't think he's shown top 5 NFL QB
