Well likely Broncos would of brought/ drafted another RB any how. Javonte should end up being the workhorse with Gordon giving him breathers and injury insurance.
They likely would've, but it would've been late. Certainly wouldn't do it with the last pick of the second, thier first pick in draft.
Plus Mike Boone is still around

Then on the other hand Gordon likely have issues staying healthy and could see a bit of a drop off in his play. I’m a Javonte owner and I not that concerned about Gordon resigning with the Broncos. Just a little surprise. I’m thinking his contract is likely team friendl.

I wouldn't be overly concerned either.

Gordon >>>>>>>> Any RB Denver would've drafted this year.

Paying him $5mil for 1 yr, so they are going to use him. I remember way back in the summer of 2021, back when everyone knew that Williams would eventually get the lion's share of that backfield by the end of the year....only it never happened. They stayed in a 55-45 split that did end up slightly in Williams favor due to the targets.

Not saying he's 2nd fiddle to Gordon, but to think that they won't cap each other's upside for another season means you're banking on a Gordon injury. As long as he's healthy, he's going to get touches. Couldn't say that for Joe Blow RB drafted on day 3

(sorry @averagejoe for slandering the good name "Joe" for that ending note)

Oh absolutely they lower each other's ceilings, no doubt about that. But Williams is still a better play now, than he was last year, if for no other reason than that offense should be significantly improved overall going from Teddy2Gloves to RW.
I'm not worried about Williams-in the sense that, he'll be a viable RB2 every week, regardless of Gordon being on the team. He'll just no longer have that upside that he MIGHT graduate to a RB1...barring something unforeseen going on.

yup - I would've been happy to slot Williams into the middle of my top 10 RBs if they drafted a late round RB and didn't re-sign the guy they gave 200 carries to last year. Receiving work should keep Williams in the lead for fantasy purposes. Long term outlook still great, just don't think we're going to get that 65-70% of the load like I was really hoping for with Gordon gone.

It'll be interesting to see how they divy up the workload. I can't imagine letting Gordon get 200 carries, even if the offense gets 150 more snaps with RW than they did with Teddy, but, one of Gordon's strongest points his entire career has been his ability to catch the ball, and Williams easily outpaces him in yards per carry, so simple math says Gordon's role is likely to be more third down than early downs. But Williams also excels in that area too, so its not like there's a need to take him off the field in those situations.

My best guess is they alternate series for the most part. 2 for Williams, one for Gordon. Come crunch time though, my money is on Williams being in the backfield..unless he fails to progress in pass pro

the local Denver radio tool bags talked about Gordon my entire drive to work..and never once touched on potential usage, it was entirely about his contract

they're paying him $3mil less than last year, seems like a great deal, especially if they can scale him back a bit if production dips or he isn't effective

that's pretty much what they were saying, he's now being paid commensurate to his production level, whereas before he was a top 10 paid RB, but just isn't a top 10 RB.

And even though they agreed with each other, they felt the need to say it about 15 different way and explain their positions to each other. I would've much preferred a debate as to who is gonna get the rock, when, and why

yup - who's on 3rd downs, who's in hurry-up O, who's in RZ package....great for Denver but bad for fantasy dorks, hard to really say that one is better than the other in any of those categories (as you mentioned a moment ago), but all of those categories have very significant impact to fantasy.

for the sake of watching exciting football, here's to hoping Williams gets closer to 65% of the load over Gordon vs the near 50/50 split we saw last year

Guess we will have to wait and see, but I do expect that this season Williams will graduate to that clear leading RB for the Broncos vs last year where he was rookie learning the ropes and Gordon was the big name with the resume.

I was definitely hoping for a Gordon to Atlanta or Houston or Tampa type signing as a new owner of him in D2.

But back to Denver is better than on to Baltimore.

I sure wouldn't wanna see him in Tampa if I were a Gordon owner. Lombardi Lenny is definitely superior to him at this point in their careers. Not that Gordon wouldn't get playing time, but that'd seriously F both of them. At least in Denver he's likely to be flex worthy.
And I'd MUCH MUCH prefer a rookie from the draft class end up in Atlanta and Houston. Getting a 29-30 year old RB in a complete and utter tear down rebuild roster doesn't make much sense..neither for them nor for Gordon, unless all he wants to do is build stats and get beat up for 250-300 touches. (actually I'm secretly praying for Houston to build the line on both sides of the ball and squeeze every last ounce of juice out of Rexy, both for fantasy and collegiate homer reasons)

Both HOU and ATL have older backs that they can feed to the wolves this year too, if they truly are targeting RB and miss their guy in the draft, they'll both have early 2nd round picks next year for a rookie RB, lol

Agree with LF. I was having that hope before Tampa resigned him.

I love your Rexy stubbornness. I’ve been known to have that with others.

well that makes sense..that was my most logical destination for him too at the beginning of free agency, figuring LF would try and cash in with one more big contract rather than attempting to play on what would need to be a team friendly deal to stay in TB and chase SB #2.

Rexy is just that kind of guy. wasn't the most talented RB in the room at Nebraska, sure has never been the most talented RB on any of the NFL teams he's been on. But no one beats his heart and effort, they might match it, but yea, I just love those 'little engine that could' types who just keep finding a way to produce. Embodiment of what all Husker fans invision a true Cornhusker to be. We're rural, blue collar workers for the most part and that's the type of attitude we like to THINK the players at our football program have. He actually is that

Well thankfully the only league I have Gordon in I don't really need him to play every week, but I look at it the opposite of you guys since I don't own Williams anywhere. If Williams gets hurt then it will vault Gordon into top 10 territory also.

ESPN's Rich Cimini reports that the Jets could trade for Deebo Samuel during the first round of the draft.

Cimini speculates that the Jets and 49ers could both be waiting to see who is available when the Jets are on the clock with the No. 10 pick

If Deebo is unhappy in SF, just wait till he gets to NY with WIlson and Co...he'll be the best RB on that team too (thanks Michael Carter)
