Can't see his whole hand, but this is the picture I'm talking about. Seems like a batter could just look down at his hand to see how he is holding the ball.

From Keith Law:

Darvish got on top of the ball well and because he keeps his arm relatively close to his body as he drives toward the plate, the ball appears to come out of his shirt, and hitters will likely have some trouble picking the ball up or identifying spin early enough to lay off that vicious slider. Seven pitches is a lot for a starter in MLB -- I understand it's more common in Japan -- but with the fastball, slider, cutter and splitter, he'd have one of the 10 best arsenals in the league, and should have the control and aggressiveness to get the most out of it.

i feel it was mostly nerves......

I think that's exactly what it was. He even said his mind was calm but his body was filled with adrenaline and he couldn't control that. What impressed me was how he was able to bear down after that awful first inning and allow only 1 run the next 5 innings. Now that he's seen first hand how his team can pick him up he can go to work without worrying about being perfect.

Those were pissing me off. If a guy gets hit, that is one thing. But those little bloopers and flares just over Ian and Beltre's heads...come on man.

romeo, you need to add the avy that bone brought over. With you posting on the general board it would really screw with people even more.

Of course, you don't appear to have one at all so maybe it is there and I just can see it here at work for some reason. Stranger crap has happened.

I pulled that up but didn't actually watch it. Was there a written article below it? Streaming media isn't all blocked for me at work, but it has been really slow the last couple of days.

So we saw it a little the last two years, and now even Yu has fallen victim to it so I'm thinking it might be a clubhouse issue...why can't our pitchers start a game? Seems like we go through stretches where the starters do well as soon as they are out of the first inning. I know I said it last year about CJ, go throw a simulated first inning before the game. May take an inning of game away from him, but would be better than spotting the other team some confidence let alone early runs.
