I get what people say about the Sixers negotiating position with the Simmons asset, but doesn’t that apply more so with Beal? Beal can walk in a few months. Simmons is under contract for 3 more seasons and if the Sixers challenge in court that Simmons never completed this year on his contract maybe 4 more years depending upon how that argument goes. The Wizards window on the Beal asset is quickly closing and others know that as well. The Simmons dynamic is truly one of a kind. It smells a lot like the Brow but that was a situation where the Pels didn’t have 3-4 years of control on his existing deal the way the Sixers do with Simmons.

They have issues too.

But this is also a summer of teams with basically no cap space

Basically wash is calling his bluff to both take less money and go to a worse team

Frankly if they trade beal they should be blowing that team up anyway

Couple of things...has something changed? Last I heard, Beal didn't particularly want to leave. Simmons wants out to the point that he won't even respond to the teams phone calls and texts. Also, while the AD thing got contentious, he was perfectly willing to play, the Pels made the decision to sit him.

This is different because Simmons is refusing to play and Sixers are asking for too much for a player that teams have legit reasons to be concerned about. It's similar to if the Lakers tried to trade AD right now. Sure, they could get a lot for him, but I doubt they could get what they paid because teams would have legit concerns about his ability to stay on the court.

Yeah, I am not even sure what your point is, you are the resident Ben Simmons apologist on these forums. But if your point is that they never should have drafted/re-signed/coddled Ben Simmons, I agree!

I love how he says he is upset Doc never came to see him, even though he acknowledges he ignored all messages from Doc. What a diva!

No, my point is the exact opposite of that.

You don’t blast the sensitive diva in the media because you know they can’t handle it.

That is on the 6ers.

Yep, it was a "must lie" situation and the Sixers told the truth.

Basically, the Sixers wife asked..."Do these jeans make my ass look fat?" and the Sixers said "Yes".

Now they get to sleep on the couch. lol

That's such a sad way to think about it. What you are saying is that the guy is too soft to handle honesty and has to be coddled.

If so, he doesn't have any role on a basketball team actually trying to win rings, because, well, that might involve some stressful situations! That might require some truths to be aired! Like, the fact that Ben Simmons still can't shoot FTs and is a liability on the court during crunch time.

And yes, it clearly means they should never have drafted him, or signed him to an extension of course, hindsight being 20-20.

Either he never plays again (starting to look like a possibility IMO) or only plays for perennial losers like the Kings at this rate.

No real basketball team is going to want anything to do with Ben Simmons, who, contrary to you and some other people, is obviously becoming the biggest loser in this situation. His reputation is destroyed and other players have zero respect for him.

The Sixers are pretty much exactly where they were with Simmons last year, without him this year. They are one game out of the #1 seed in the east. Tyrese Maxey has emerged as a budding star. Simmons meanwhile is becoming a bigger punchline by the day.

Will the Sixers win a ring without Ben Simmons this year? Probably not. But they were never winning with him either, not with him refusing to improve a single aspect of his game!

I don't think anyone who has watched the Sixers in recent months should be surprised that Tyrese Maxey is untouchable in a trade. His 3 point shooting went from 30% to 40% in a season and he is becoming a bona-fide star.

There are only three guys on the Sixers I would not trade: Embiid, Maxey and Thybulle. The rest would be negotiable in my book.

The only problem with you analogy is that Ben Simmons is the one sleeping on the couch, because he threw a tantrum and moved there.

The Sixers are playing, and winning, while Simmons pouts like a bitch at home.

So what's the vibe in Philly about Ben Simmons these days, you might wonder.

Well...

Yes and no. A team can win a title with Ben Simmons, but they can't do it with him as a #1 or likely even as a #2. You could put him on teams with an established star or 2 like the Warriors, Lakers, Nets, Bucks, etc. and win a title. His problem in Philly is that the Sixers wanted him to be at least a #2 and often a #1 because of Embiid missing a lot of time.

That's probably why Morey can't get his asking price. He wants a haul that you would get for a #1 or #2 because that's what he was in Philly. The rest of the league doesn't see him that way.

I don’t disageee.

Sounds like the rich and far more success than me owner disagrees

He also thought that Ernie Grunfeld was a good GM. So there's that.

True.

Hiring coaching and front office jobs is really hard

You never know if someone is actually good until they’re in the big chair

True. But keeping them for 15 years is completely on ownership. I know not all of that was on Leonsis but most of it is.

Yes. Agreed.

Sometimes they just don’t wanna pay 2 guys at once.
