I mean, I'll bet against every team not winning a title and I'd be right a lot.

Kind of my point.

Especially when modern history tells us there is likely to be at least 1 super team out there somewhere.

Guess where those super teams aren’t happening?

I mean, they look to be making a huge jump in his rookie season but, what, we will regress as he gets better (and other incredibly young guys also maybe improve)?

But it's title or bust for us? Not even being a contender would be enough?

Depends.

Sometimes being a contender is enough. It was for Giannis.

Sometimes it isn’t.

LeBron and now seemingly Dame for example.

Lots of variables there.

But it really comes down to whether the player thinks they are real contenders, or just a team good enough to get close and still lose.

Portland is an example of a team good enough to get close and lose. Now they don’t even appear to be that.

A. LeBron didnt leave at hte first opportunity

B. Dirk didnt leave at the first opportunity

C. Durant didnt leave at the first opportunity

D. Kyrie didnt leave at the first opportunity

E. Davis didnt leave at the first opportunity

F. Kawhi didnt leave at the first opportunity

basically no one leaves at the first opportunity. Maybe by their THIRD contract. But that is usually 7-8 years- which is only be extended by the new built in advantages of the hometown super max

if you really think that the Knicks have a better chance to win a title before the Cavs you are hopeless. You must really think management means less than market - which is insanity in the modern NBA.

I really do believe that.

Because like I said, I am betting against Cleveland winning.

20 years from when Dolan sells the team and they get competent organizational culture, the Knicks will have a chance again.

While I am not betting on either franchise, yeah, I think I would take the Knicks winning a title before the Cavs.

Again, because I will ALWAYS bet against the small market from winning. Most don’t.

why guess as I've said over and over I get LA could have an advantage.....but been a very long time since they've been able to, well, take advantage of their advantage (same as the Knicks). Can you guess why?

Ummm..

LA just won a title in 2020 man.

If you could sign up your team for 1 title every 10 years would you do it?

This whole discussion was from when you said LA would be able to get back to contender status sooner rather than later, no?

I wasn't even talking about whether being a contender was enough for Mobley to stay or not. Only that you need to be consistent in what you'd want from LA and a team like the Cavs.

with Lebron. He's not in the picture for this discussion. Pay attention. You really need to write down what we're talking about my friend...it's basically how soon can the Lakers get back to being a title contender without Lebron.....and why you seem to think sooner rather than later based on what you've seen of their management team that is not Lebron related (so no Lebron or AD).

I am.

If they miss out with this core it could many years before they get another chance.

Which is why it is more important for those tier 3 markets to get it right.

Holy shit man.

How many times do I have to say it and it still won’t sink in for you?

They did it with Kobe and Gasol, Kobe and Shaq, and Magic and Kareem before them.

There will always be another iteration of Laker stars.

I am not putting a time frame on it like you are trying to. I just know that it will happen.

I don’t have that same confidence in Cleveland, or any other team in a similar position market wise.

Will the Knicks win before Milwaukee wins another?

That is a better question.

I wouldn’t want to make that bet at all.

Milwaukee has the pieces to win right now, obviously. So it comes down to whether Giannis can get another one or not.

Don’t want to bet against Giannis there.

Will always bet against any small market team getting to that level though.

And yes, occasionally I will be wrong.

I mean, the only time in Lakers history that it looked like it wouldnt happen again was when Short Buss was running things. They got rid of him and got Lebron, followed by AD.

No doubt about that....and cannot even say I expected to have a core like this that might give us a shot if this one even does. Said for a while to ever have a shot again they needed some lottery luck in the last draft and got it.

Right?

I am on record saying it doesn’t look like the current version is going to end on a positive note.

But damn.

They will get back on top.

Whether it is Pelinka, or Pelinka’s successor or his successor.

It will happen.

Holy shit man, "they" are not here anymore and the CBA is far different. How many times do I have to say that for you?

Do they have a better chance than a rebuilding Indiana, Cleveland, etc? Probably, as they have one advantage over them....but they haven't been able to use that advantage on a FA in quite a long time if his name was not Lebron.

You can say it all you want.

Doesn’t make it true.

How did this get to be a Cavs thread too? I thought this was the Browns thread. I don’t deal with change well.

what I said was a fact. .....unless you think the CBA has not changed or can name a stud FA they signed since Shaq not named Lebron.

You can go ahead and get the last word. Try and make it good. Preferably factual and not baseless opinion.

Ok. You answered this earlier.

Who is more likely to win a title first?

Lakers post LeBron or the Cavs?

I just asked @dtgold88 a direct question and he didn’t answer it.

That is like the number 1 thing you claim not to do.

So please answer the question above.
