Makes more sense. I see eye to eye with escalating. I think these recent attempts to press the fines is poking the bear needlessly. I also agree with holding an organization to higher standard. I was just pushing back on the idea that the Sixers caused or created all this. Criticism their way is absolutely warranted. Making them share the majority of the blame or highlighting them as the root of the problem is where I squabble.

The problem is that this shit has gotten personal and that's always a bad thing.

Now, they're just trying to make each other as miserable as possible.

The league has to step in, you can’t allow a guy to make fun of mental illness.

You can’t prove that he is!

A close colleague of mine was going through some stuff. Lots of stress on the job and he was in a bad place mentally. I had no idea he was going through any of it until he took 2 months off and told me about it.

He got himself right, came back to work, then the symptoms started returning. He left the job, started doing something else in a less stressful environment and he is very happy today.

You don’t always know what people are going through mentally! Even people who are close to you. And a change of scenery that removes the stressors can absolutely help a person improve basically overnight, depending on what they are dealing with.

Simmons is clearly under a lot of pressure and stress with how hated he is by the Philly fan base. Yes, it may be caused by his actions (or inactions). Yes, he might be more willing to play through it if he wanted to be there.

But he doesn’t want to be there. And the reason why is because of the way the organization has handled him over the last few months. Simple causality there.

I do believe his mental health is not perfect right now. How could it be? I also believe he could probably play right now if he wanted to.

But, like Trojan said, Philly has made it personal for him.

He’s faking, everyone knows it.

He doesn’t want to be there.

He is under a ton of stress because the Philly fans don’t want home there.

That creates a lot of stress and anxiety and takes its toll on a person.

Could he play if he wanted to? Probably so.

But he doesn’t want to. And I am quite sure this ordeal has taken a toll on him mentally.

That is not fake.

So again, you can’t prove your side of this. And you don’t KNOW anything.

He doesn’t have have to play, just stop trying to get paid for nothing. He’s full of shit and is hurting the players cause.

Did you speak with Ben directly? He told you he lying or we just making assumptions?
There would be a player revolt if they didn’t all kniw it’s a sham.

Finally someone with some sense

Look, I think most believe he is faking, but like the quote from A Few Good Men..."It doesn't matter what I think, it matters what I can prove".

So unless and until someone comes forward with a damning e-mail or some doctor that Ben claims to have been seeing says "I've never met the guy"...the league can't do anything.

As long as the sixers can continue to not have to pay him everything is fine, he can rot

I have no way of knowing whether he has mental issues or not.

But the reality is that he made it clear he wanted to leave the team a week after the Hawks series. And he and his team have engaged in numerous tactics to force the Sixers to trade him. Simmons said he would never play for the Sixers again and he would not come to camp. Once the Sixers held his pay, he chooses to show up but makes that untenable. He gets sent home but the team starts fining him for his conduct. He THEN says that the problem is a mental health problem and Rich Paul has the nerve to say that this isn't about money?

Well if it isn't about money, Rich, then why do you care about the fines?

Morey is the one pulling some bs here? Interesting.

I agree that we have no way of knowing and the timing of everything is beyond suspicious.

However, there's also nothing wrong with Rich Paul saying it's not about money while trying to make sure he collects every penny of his contract.

Based on the actual information that we have, Ben Simmons is having mental issues that he claims are preventing him from playing. Unless and until there is proof that he's faking...he gets paid just like any other injured player. It's kind of Rich Pauls job to make sure he gets paid.
