The 2021 Patriots' Draft has paid huge dividends Comments and Critiques:

Round 1: No. 15 – Mac Jones, QB, Alabama

Somehow, the best QB of the class of 2021 fell fifteen picks and into Bill Belichick's lap. Mac has started every game and become a steady improving leader of the offense every week. There have to be four other teams saying to themselves "What if?"

Round 2: No. 38 (from CIN) – Christian Barmore, DT, Alabama

He was an outstanding force in the NCAA Championship gem but somehow was overlooked by everyone until BB picked again at 47. Barmore started slow but by the fifth game was a solid starter and disruptive force in the middle of the Patriots front seven.

Round 3: No. 96 – Ronnie Perkins, DE, Oklahoma

Perkins was on Injured Reserve for most of training camp and the first several games of the season. He was active for the Cleveland game but didn't see any action. It's expected that he will be getting more and more playing time over the final 8 games of the season and into the playoffs

Round 4: No. 120 – Rhamondre Stevenson, RB, Oklahoma

Stevenson fumbled in the first game and found himself on the sidelines for the next three games. When he was put back into the rotation, he took control and has had two outstanding games in a row. When Damien Harris returns from the Concussion Protocol
the patriot running game will be a nightmare for opposing defenses.

Round 5: No. 177 – Cameron McGrone, LB, Michigan

Non Football (NFL) injury list and will reman for 2021. Will get his opportunity in 2022.

Round 6: No. 188 – Joshua Bledsoe, S, Missouri

IR and will remain on it for the 2021 season. Has been watching from the sideline every game and is learning. He'll know what it will take in 2022.

Round 6: No. 197 – William Sherman, OT, Colorado

Practice squad for 2021. Should be ready to take over for either Wynn or Brown in 2022.

Round 7: No. 242 – Tre Nixon, WR, UCF

Practice squad for 2021. Needed to learn and be in on every practice. He will will be ready to to compete for a spot in 2022.

Bill and Zig hit it out of the park in 2021. Having more voices than Caserio proved to be a much better way for Bill to make the final decision in every round.

I agree with most of this.

Always difficult to predict what late round picks may do. Especially if they've been on the PS or IR.

I'm not sure Sherman can walk in next year and replace Brown or Wynn. Even though Wynn is having a terrible year.
Not sure what his problem has been? Hope it can get fixed.

He had a knee problem when he was drafted and he's had a couple of minor procedures since. He was drafted to be RT but because of circumstances he's played on the left side. When Brown was here the first time, Wynn was out and Brown stepped in and then left and Wynn went back. His problem is that he has a slow first step. Scar worked with him and helped him make adjustments, but his biggest problem is that he has short arms. Most LTs are 6'5" or taller and have a big wingspan. Long arms can force a speed rusher to take a longer route to the QB. Wynn's size and slow feet allow guys like Garrett and Miller to set up a half step further out and Wynn just can't reach them before they spurt right by him. If the Left side sets up a little more outside, it creates a hole in the middle for a LB to blitz

I don't think Sherman will take over next year. All acounts are that he is playing well though.
We could either Wynn or Brown. That could change things.

Wynn a free agent in 2022, option wasn't picked up. That alone was a huge signal that BB doesn't see him as the future at any o-Line position.
Brown will also be a free agent unless he decides to stay and sign a contract that fits his playing time.

I can see Owenue at RT or LT and Sherman at RT. I expect to see Bill trading around and picking up mid round picks next year.

There may be a lot of truth to that.
Maybe BB trusted him too much?
Maybe he had more power/control than what we knew?
Maybe he ran Brady out of town...he seems to be running Watson out of Houston (with or without legal issues).

Who knows, it's been a good year so far.

You really can't add the (with or without legal issues) for Watson and draw any conclusion since Watson DOES have significant legal issues...

Think I'll wait at least until the end of the 2021 season before I feel compelled to review this draft.

C'mon Reb. I'm the crotchedy old bastard in here, don't start making common sense statements.

Too much fun doing early assessments.

You have to agree that Mac, Stevenson, Barmore have somewhat exceeded expectations that we all expressed back in August.

Yes, I really can.
He said he wanted out right after Caserio was brought in, before the legal issues came to light.
Hence;
"With Legal Issues" because he has legal issues.
Or
"Without Legal Issues" because he wanted out before they came out.

How can it be the beginning of the end for a team that barely ever was? I mean, isn't it a rule somewhere that before you reach the "beginning of the end" you need to reach the "end of a beginning"?

To be fair, I remember the days when we were happy whenever our team sucked less than the previous year...
