So to summarize, Cinci shouldn't be taken seriously until they play good P5 teams and P5 teams should never play Cinci?

That makes sense...
How did you come up with that? Teams like OU, OSU Bama etc ARE NOT AFRAID of G5 teams. The G5 teams NEED these games in increase their lousy SOS. I said that the big P5 schools DON'T need the games but many would be willing to HOST UC, BSU, UCF in one way games.

Spoiler alert: It SHOULDN'T happen!!!! That's the point. Cincy NEEDS the big games. OU, OSU, Bama, UGa, Mich DON"T need the game.

Both Cincy and UCF have been playing FBS since 1996 (25 seasons). Over that span UC has played 10 Top 10 teams AWAY and none at neutral sites (0.40/yr). UCF has played 6 Top 10 teams AWAY and none at neutral sites (0.24/yr) over the past 25 years. For comparison, over the same 25 year span my team (UF) has played 24 Top 10 teams AWAY plus 18 more at neutral sites (Atlanta and Jacksonville). That's 42 Top 10 opponents in 25 years (1.68/yr).

All of the big teams in the P5 conferences play GOOD teams AWAY. It's the G5 that don't play them anywhere. So IF Cincy, UCF, BSU REALLY want these games then instead of crying they are going to have to bite the bullet and play these games ONE-WAY that is AWAY!
They not only don't need the games, they tend to be in many cases a lose lose. because if it's close they get ripped for it. so you better beat some of these OOC foes by 30 or you risk being slammed by the sports media. and then if you lose to them obviously, it's destructive to your program. Ask michigan about losing to App St. and Toledo.......

That's all well and good but good luck trying to find top-25 teams willing to schedule a home and home with a team like Cinci.

Spoiler alert: it aint happening.

Why should Cincy get a home and home?

Either do 2 for 1s, or neutral site games.

So, I've heard many say, "Cincy needs to put up style points tonight".................

Dudes............... its too fucking late for that............ there have been 3 games in a row they struggled with teams they needed to destroy.

Imo, The Tulsa game debacle was the last straw. They easily could have lost that game....... OSU beat them 41-20. Common opponent comparison.

After the ND win, they needed to blow everyone on their schedule out by 30 pts or more................ they've failed.

Their only chance is chaos amongst a lot of the rest of the teams:

2-loss PAC, 2-loss amongst all the B1G contenders might be enough.

They won't get in over 2-loss Bama.

That is somewhat true. 2/3 of their schedule is conference games which they have very limited control over. However, they KNOW their conference schedule is a liability. They do have control over 1/3 of their schedule and thus should make every effort to maximize this asset. While they have no control over how those teams perform during a given season they CAN and SHOULD do everything in their power to schedule really good teams to offset their poor conference schedule. This is my problem with these teams. They want to schedule Murray State and Miami (OH) which they can't to do and then complain that it isn't their fault that Indiana sucks this year. News flash Indiana sucks 9 out of 10 seasons. If you want to build your resume you DON'T schedule Murray State, Miami (OH) or Indiana. I'm not sure if you know about the Massey Composite ranking but Massey collects about 90 rankings from around the country and combines them to create a "consensus" ranking. In that composite UC has 3 opponents ranked in the top 65 teams and 9 in the lower 65 teams. UGa, Bama, OU, OSU, and Mich all have at least 6 teams in the top 65. I have no problem with the committee "considering" UC. I do have a problem with them selecting UC over one of the above teams.
Many many many problems here.

The players and the coaches do not determine who they play. It doesn't seem fair to me to punish the players and coaches for something they cannot control.

You used the word "they". Whose "they"? The ADs do not actually play the games or coach the players to be the best they can be.

The ADs have no ability to determine 2/3rds of the said football team's opponents.

For those the remaining third, you have to realize the following: These games are scheduled years in advance. Unless you schedule to play Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Alabama, or Ohio State, you don't know how good your OOC opponents will be. You don't know if your OOC will end up in the top 25 or have an off year. On top of that, you need both teams to agree on the terms. Where and when will the games take place? Are these teams going to face each for the next 2-3 years or is it a once-only deal? What is going to be the money distribution?

And beyond those problematic elements, why is there's a built in assumption the AAC is a weak conference? In 2019, Anderson & Hester (one of the BCS computer systems) had the AAC rated as the 5th best conference that season and ahead of the ACC. Memphis played four teams rated in the top 25 and had the 58th best schedule in the country. Clemson played no teams in the top 25 and had the 74th best schedule.

The problem here is the G5s are in a lose-lose situation. Even when they get the opportunity to beat a big gun team, particularly on the road, we still hear accuses like "it was a fluke," "the victory happened early in season," or "Well, they cannot handle more teams of that quality". All projection. All based on discriminatory principles.

Oh yeah. Lots of games left. Lots of chaos could happen. BIG could canabalize itself.
OU could easily go down

But style points ain’t gonna do it.

Their fate is in the hands of others.

Come on. The AD, coaches, and players are on the same "team".

The ADs have no ability to determine 2/3rds of the said football team's opponents.
I already said that. But they do know that 2/3 of their schedule sucks because of the conference they're in. Therefore it is on "them" to utilize the other 1/3 of the schedule that they do control to the MAX.
Exactly! That's why they should schedule those teams. IF you want to play with the big boys you MUST actually PLAY the big boys!!!!
And beyond those problematic elements, why is there's a built in assumption the AAC is a weak conference? Memphis played four teams rated in the top 25 and had the 58th best schedule in the country. Clemson played no teams in the top 25 and had the 74th best schedule.
What was problematic? Clemson was defending National Champions and had won 28 straight games. Memphis?
The problem here is the G5s are in a lose-lose situation. Now you're just making stuff up. UC has been in the AAC for 8 seasons. During that time they have played 12 ranked teams. Of the 12 only 3 were P5 teams. UC is 0-12 vs ranked teams. So this year they beat ND that makes it 1-12. What evidence is there that the win wasn't a fluke? Better arguement for UCF. UCF has been in the ACC for 8 seasons and have played 17 ranked teams including bowl games. Of those 10 were G5 and 7 were P5 teams (4 in regular season and 3 in Bowls). In the regular season which is what gets you into the playoffs UCF is 0-4 vs P5 ranked teams.

Who actually plays the game? Coaches and players. These are the ones who play the game and develop game plans. The ADs do not.

Why does being in the AAC mean their schedule "sucks"? You're not talking about objective measurements. You're talking about "perception" and brand name labels. As pointed out before, the AAC played a better schedule than the ACC in 2019.

How does an AD know which teams will be ranked in the top 25 years in advance? Unless you schedule ND, Alabama, Oklahoma, or Ohio State, it's a luck of the draw. In other words, how do you know what is and what is not a big boy?

There's a glass ceiling. College football always comes up with reasons to deny a G5 program into the playoffs.

Cincy has disappointed the last 5 weeks. I see nothing that would lead me to think that Cincy wouldn't be the underdog to every other team in the top 20 of the CFP, including ND.

If the committee puts in a 2 loss bama, I'll be waiting for the committee in the parking lot with brass knuckles...........

I agree that the Big-10 champion should get into the final four. That's a brutal conference. SOS is a problem for Cincinnati. Nobody is going to deny this.

Either do 2 for 1s, or neutral site games.
Cincinnati is so far past the 2 for 1’s unless its Ohio State and Ohio State never in their right mind will play at Nippert.

Each team in the AAC putting everything they have to beat them and take their dream. It’s very hard to continue to win consecutively like this no matter the comp.

That’s the type of offer you make towards an up and comer like Coastal Carolina or UTSA. Cincinnati has earned the benefit of doubt.

No, that's the type of offer you make to a G5 school with a small stadium. Cincy being good has nothing to do with it.

Call it whatever you wanna call it. I think it’s a condescending way of saying “we’re too big or too good to play you home and home”. That didn’t stop UCLA, VT, or Miami FL from being nice to Cincy.
