I like the Gausman possibility, assuming of course the Giants don't try to sign him long term.

i know you were and what you were getting at. but regardless of the 'lately' comment, i'd still say he'd not be an improvement unless we also had semien and taylor was used strictly as a utility guy. THEN the question would be, is he an improvement over garcia?! (certainly not as a fielder)
You are seeming to either forget or ignore that my interest in Taylor is based on the anticipated loss of Garcia. If I thought for one moment that his re-signing with the Sox is in the bag, there wouldn't be a request from me for the pursuit of Taylor. And of course another factor in determining whether to sign him is if we go after big game such as Semien, Story, etc. IF we could sign one of them and IF Garcia leaves, then IF we could also ink Taylor as well - that would be the ideal sitch, but one which is quite unrealistic.

BTW, it's not just Hahn and other Sox brass who read this forum's posts:

I should start charging.

i ignored nothing. you said he'd be an improvement over hernandez. i say he'd NOT. i then suggested the only improvement he'd be is IF we got semien and lost garcia .. and even then i don't really see that as an improvement. i wasn't putting words in your mouth and i didn't misunderstand what you said.
i will add ... taylor made 7M last season and i'm sure he'd want more next year. hernandez is signed for 5M for next year (if we keep him). taylor a little more versatile but a worse 2nd baseman! he's a worse hitter with about the same power potential and he'd cost more. i see NO upside to taylor. AT ALL!

in my opinion VINNIE DUBER doesn't know what he's talking about. just another dumbass basing an opinion on taylor's last 20 ab's!

Ok, so we disagree, big whup. And oh yeah, I'll take the opinion of some fan on a sports board watching ballgames on TV over a writer who covers the White Sox and baseball in general extensively. Get over yourself iddy.

Hey Mom - the kids are fighting again!

For the record - Hernandez is not signed, but has a $6 million option the Sox can exercise or decline.

My advice to @idseer: I'm cool with your opinions - it would be boring to be on a board with everyone having the same opinion. I wish you would just make a post of your opinion - instead of quoting the remarks of another poster. When you quote them - it makes your opinion seem personal - rather than objectively your opinion. IMO - your responses would be more effective - if they weren't posed as direct challenge to other posters - as it infers those other posters have some defective logic that you can't allow to stand. Posting that same opinion as a separate post avoids making it seem such a personal comment on another posters opinion.

except it isn't just opinion in this case. cleary lsd said taylor was better and just as clearly (to anyone looking at the stats, both lifetime and recent) he is not. that was my point and not just some general observation. it WAS a direct challenge!
frankly i do not care if lsd's widdow feewings are hurt by some facts. his logic wasn't only defective, it was downright bullshit. being wrong about something happens (we're ALL wrong about things from time to time) but when it's pointed out and you double down or make some smarmy comment about "what i really meant" then it's fair game to me.
thanks for the advice ... but no, not in this case.

Once again, a perfect example as to why I think you're the nicest, most level headed poster in this forum. I have nothing against someone with an opposing opinion, but when people like Carnak the Numbnutz start arrogantly opining as if they can read my mind, that's it, this is the point where I X him out of the equation.

Oh, and FTR, I am slightly pulling for the Braves because I felt they got screwed out of the AS game and look forward to the fans booing the shit out of the Commish, who let baseball get intimidated by woke politics, which had zero to do with the Braves as an organization. I never really followed the cheating scandal involving the Astros. If I had, I'm sure at some point I would have offered a few thoughts on the issue, which I never did. And I certainly wouldn't have hoped for AJ Hinch to be our manager, who I really wanted as our new chief.

I heard the other day the kind of contract extension the Sox could offer Giolito would be 5 years at a total of $110 -115 million. The Sox would also probably add club options for year 6 and 7 - at maybe $25 mil per year. Personally - I think he is worth it. He is a dedicated professional - fits with his teammates and after a rough start this past season - righted the ship for a very decent finish. He's a true pitcher.

Another article pushing the RF options:

No really bad choices here, in fact a few good ones, but personally I'm way less concerned over the RF sitch than I am at 2b. But what the heck, it makes for decent reading material.

I'm also looking forward to similar articles providing rotation and BP candidates.

Just sign Marcus Simien! He would be a plus defensively and offensively. If the Sox are competitive with an offer - they are at a stage of development that Simien could see himself as the difference maker if he joins up.

Sign Chris Tucker to replace Leury Legend Garcia.

Tell Reinsdorf - if he wants TLR to win a world series - he needs to depart with some of his best friends at the bank.
