I don't see how you can have him sit out a year just to make a point

This usually doesn’t happen because usually it’s bad teams who have guys who want out

Brad needs to get in there at a certain point lol

This situation is just getting weird. His value DID drop with his performance in the playoffs. This is fact. Philly management knows this but s÷m to think that nobody else does. There is no point in having him sit out a year.

It's so far into the league year that a trade now is kind of awkward. But I guess the Nets and Rockets did something similar.

I dont see how all this posturing has helped his value any though. Definitely hindered

Morey is doing what he can to maximize the value of Simmons. No way he thought was going to get that king's ransom that was rumored a couple of months ago.

I do think that Morey wants to trade Simmons but that he wants Simmons to show up and play and rehabilitate his image a little. The problem now isn't just that Hawks playoff series but also Simmons petulance.

There is no reason for Morey to trade Simmons right now. Every team is at the most optimistic right before the season starts. They are fantasizing about how their rookies will be immediate impact players and their 2nd year players are going to make a huge leap and become all-stars.

Reality comes crashing down 10-15 games into the season.

Take a look at the Kings as an example. The reports are that they aren't willing to trade any useful assets for Simmons. Because they can live in the fantasy of Halliburton becoming Penny Hardaway this year. But if the Kings start off 4-11 to start the season and Halliburton is struggling a little, the allure of bringing in a guy like Simmons who would immediately improve the team dramatically becomes much stronger.

There are probably 6 or 7 teams that will become a lot more interested in Simmons by November than they are right now. Morey knows it. Morey won't feel any pressure to deal Simmons until the New Year, at the earliest. Honestly, I don't think he will feel any pressure at all because the fan base is 100% behind the team in a way that you don't always see.

I think that Simmons and Klutch misread the landscape. I think they thought that the team would be viewed as screwing up and be forced to make a move. The reality is that the Sixer fan base and the league in general is backing the team. Honestly, and this is purely speculative on my part certainly, I don't think that Simmons is getting a lot of sympathy from players either. Most of the ex players, who talk to the current players, are either neutral or outright critical of Simmons. Players get behind a player trying to get more money. But a player on a max contract with 4 years left leaving because he couldn't hit free throws? GTFOH!

Just curious, what is the view on Ben Simmons right now if he hits 85% of his free throws? even if he never added a 3 point shot I think that point he is viewed as a top 10 player in the league. I just can't wrap my head around not improving the absolutely most basic basketball skill when it is the one thing keeping you from being considered one of the true elite players.

I don't think it's about trying to improve. I think its a mental block and/or lack of confidence. No reason he can't be back in the 60s in FT%. A smaller market and/or the right coaching should help a lot.

Curious just because you are wasting another year of embiid prime if you let him sit out.
Versus...if you sell him for pennies on the dollar you're in that situation forever shutting the door on the possibility of a championship in Embiid's prime. This is huge. If they handcuff themselves with what they bring back, it may be too late to fix before Embiid crosses that threshold of being on the back end. Given that either/or, it's pretty clear that you have him sit.

He's a top 30 player in the league even if he never adds to his game. He's a 3 time all-star and on the all defensive team. He still has immense value.

Explain that in detail to 29 other gms and get back to me. I dont think you have as unique of an opinion on simmons as you think. He is what he is, and top 30 is debatable.

Here's an article that puts him at 28. Roughly 30 guys make the East and West All-Star team. Simmons has made it 3 times. Ben Simmons gets exposed in the playoffs but is a great regular season player. Cavs, Kings, TWolves, etc..., the teams he is being linked to are poor teams that as currently constructed won't sniff the playoffs anytime soon. It's weird to me that a team who immediately improves about 8-15 wins when Simmons joins their team would turn their nose up at a guy because of his flawed performance in the playoffs, something that really isn't a "concern" they've earned the right to have. Just my opinion.

Then what is the issue with trading him? Clearly everyone should read this article and agree on an amicable trade.

McCollum for Simmons in some form seems to be the most obvious fit

Top 30 is probably right, given his defensive ability. However, that is a HUGE contract and Philly is posturing as if they want everything in return. Tough to make a deal under those circumstances (plus a hold out).

Not sure he fits with Portland, as Nurkic will clog the lane area. Otherwise, it seems a natural move.

Moves powell to his more natural position. Gives them a stopper defensively and they can also play nance a bit at center
