Trae Young ran a pick and roll clinic in the first half of game 1 in Philly in that series they won. He worked like all 4-5 options on the play to perfection.

Years ago, when I coached high school basketball, I looooooved the pick and roll. My team was arguably the least talented team in our league, but I had a smart point guard, a decent center and 1 kid who could shoot a decent 3.

The pick and roll was literally about the only thing that gave my team a chance in most games. lol

Good call, coach. Ya gotta run shit for the personnel you have not the personnel you want to have.

My hs coach never had great talent, we just ran motion, flex, and then overloads against zones. Simple stuff.

Because we ran like hell. I was a c. I’d grab the rebound. Outlet. And we ran like hell to beat the team down the floor.

Simple stuff

Yep. Like a coach I knew used to say. "When you have racehorses, you race. When you have plow horses you plow".

I had plow horses in a league full of racehorses. lol

Just curious, what is the view on Ben Simmons right now if he hits 85% of his free throws? even if he never added a 3 point shot I think that point he is viewed as a top 10 player in the league. I just can't wrap my head around not improving the absolutely most basic basketball skill when it is the one thing keeping you from being considered one of the true elite players.

He is a Top 10 player in the league if he hits 85% of his free throws. He would be like Lebron without a jump shot but a better handle and 3 inches taller. He would be driving through the lane constantly.

But he will never be an 85% shooter. Maybe 70% if he actually tries.

I’ve read Philly and indy have talked about levert and brogdon in Simmons deals.

Give them Duarte and close this bitch out.

They should be able to get about half a season out of Levert and Brogdon combined.

The numbers don't lie though. When Simmons and Embiid are on the floor together they have been very good. At least in the regular season.

Joel Embiid was a 38% shooter from the arc last year. His face up game improved DRAMATICALLY last year. It's not like he can only succeed in the paint or with his back to the basket.

Simmons' drive game isn't a threat if he's not willing to get fouled. And that's the problem. If Simmons drove hard to the hoop, drew the foul and made the basket, then teams would be forced to collapse on him in the paint and you could have Embiid in the dunker spot or at the elbow driving into guys out of position.

But that all requires that Simmons is making his free throws at a decent clip. When he was, the Sixers starting 5 were close to unstoppable.

I guess what I see moreso is the ball stopping once it reaches Tobias or Joel. If they're touching the ball it's not like they have this dynamic passing game from the perimeter in to a guy like Ben or the ability to break a D down for Ben to play off that. I see Ben being much more successful on a team that has a strong guard who can also command the attention of the D that way and thus open opportunities up for Ben inside.

I'm sure that you could build a better team for Ben if you could pick and choose the pieces.

And certainly if he went to a team where he was the clear No. 1 player, his numbers would go up. But the same problems would persist.

Ben certainly owns a lion share of this issue. It is rather surprising he hasn't developed his outside shot more. That said even if he suddenly became a draymond green esque 3 pt shooter I see the team build as an issue. For the reasons the article above alluded to. I don't think a ball dominant 5 and Ben Simmons is a title winning combo. Just my opinion.

And to me all that discussion should have happened behind closed doors and not aired in public the way it was. Save Ben some face and likely help his trade value. That's where the Sixers fucked up.

It’s all being done in the press but the Sixers, Embiid, and Doc own about 15-20% of that seen in comments insensitive after Game 7 and not publicly walking them back. But every single leak you’ve seen on this situation this off season has come from Simmons and Klutch Sports. They’re the major players using the media to play this thing out and it’s back firing.

Supposedly Simmons requested a trade 3 days after game 7.

Simmons had a horrible series against the Hawks. And rather than take ownership of his failures, he chose to act like a hurt child because people didn't coddle him. What Simmons SHOULD have done is stepped up to the podium and said "I failed and I need to improve my game"

I agree he should have acknowledged his play
