And what turned out to to be a lottery pick
Maybe, I've seen some conflicting reports on that... and furthermore it's not clear if any draft compensation would have been for this year, or perhaps lottery protected.

this doesn’t even create enough money to sign Fournier and stay below the tax

Right.

The cap savings part does not apply to the Celtics.

If Kemba is both 1.) not reliable because of health and 2.) massively overpaid, he's a big problem towards a goal of "contending"... and that problem needs to be resolved.

In that case... the Celtics did clear cap space, especially for 22/23... and the C's will almost certainly be looking for a 3rd star to pair with Tatum and Brown.

Good luck!

I don’t think Horford is exactly the model of reliability at this point either.

Yea...I mean we are basically banking on him being a version of himself from over 2 years ago. He played 28 games last year and wasn't a good fit in Philly.

I'm not saying dumping Kemba was a bad decision I just think a first and Horford is an interesting move

Saw a random fan come up with a trade on Twitter.

-Hayward to Indiana

-Porzingis to Charlotte

-Myles Turner and Jeremy Lamb to Dallas

The salaries work and all 3 teams get players that would work for the teams.

That is interesting.

I think Dallas would need to get a pick or 2 in there. But overall that isn’t a bad deal.

This deal wasn't about "getting Horford", though.

A 2022 first would’ve been different than 16 overall

even that is rough, but more manageable

I just don't see the contract as being such as behemoth that we are taking (imo) a lesser player on and giving up a mid first rounder to boot.

Wall had/has a worse contract and they got Westbrook for him. (Granted also bad contract but depending on fit a solid player still)

Is Kemba still a "solid player" (bit of a loose term), though?

- He's small, and therefore a defensive liability.
- He has missed a lot of games the past couple of seasons.
- His knees are giving out.
- Because he has lost his elite burst, he has really struggled to finish around the basket.

According to the site profitx (Espn insider uses them for their articles) Kemba was woth mid 20Something in value

he was worth 4.2 war In raptor

still a good player

Hollinger model projects him to be worth 24m next year and horford 9.5.

If Kemba's healthy... sure, maybe.

A pretty big "if".

In a playoff series, he's not only a risk from a health standpoint... he's also a target on defense.

I get that.

And like I said, if you are attaching assets to get rid of a core player, you aren’t a contender.

At least not in 2022.

I doubt they are a legit contender with al on the roster.

And that’s not a shot at al.

I get all that. But what is Boston's end game here? You have two stars on your roster so the goal is to build around them. Yet you're devoting nearly 30 million to Al Horford for next year. Debate whether Kemba is elite anymore is fair but I doubt anyone thinks Horford is.
