If Kemba is both 1.) not reliable because of health and 2.) massively overpaid, he's a big problem towards a goal of "contending"... and that problem needs to be resolved.

In that case... the Celtics did clear cap space, especially for 22/23... and the C's will almost certainly be looking for a 3rd star to pair with Tatum and Brown.

Yea...I mean we are basically banking on him being a version of himself from over 2 years ago. He played 28 games last year and wasn't a good fit in Philly.

I'm not saying dumping Kemba was a bad decision I just think a first and Horford is an interesting move

That is interesting.

I think Dallas would need to get a pick or 2 in there. But overall that isn’t a bad deal.

I just don't see the contract as being such as behemoth that we are taking (imo) a lesser player on and giving up a mid first rounder to boot.

Wall had/has a worse contract and they got Westbrook for him. (Granted also bad contract but depending on fit a solid player still)

- He's small, and therefore a defensive liability.
- He has missed a lot of games the past couple of seasons.
- His knees are giving out.
- Because he has lost his elite burst, he has really struggled to finish around the basket.

If Kemba's healthy... sure, maybe.

A pretty big "if".

In a playoff series, he's not only a risk from a health standpoint... he's also a target on defense.

I get all that. But what is Boston's end game here? You have two stars on your roster so the goal is to build around them. Yet you're devoting nearly 30 million to Al Horford for next year. Debate whether Kemba is elite anymore is fair but I doubt anyone thinks Horford is.
