Yes. Even then.

When you have to attach assets to a player in order to dump them, you aren’t using those assets to make your team better.
If Kemba is both 1.) not reliable because of health and 2.) massively overpaid, he's a big problem towards a goal of "contending"... and that problem needs to be resolved.
You almost never see actual contenders make those types of moves unless strictly to clear cap space to sign another star.
In that case... the Celtics did clear cap space, especially for 22/23... and the C's will almost certainly be looking for a 3rd star to pair with Tatum and Brown.

They already had cap space that year…

Hell the Celtics had Horford at a much better age. I really don’t know know how much I like this for the Thunder either, although it was clear Horford was not part of their plans. Brown is a big body but he isn’t very skilled away from the basket. But this does give the Thunder 36 draft picks in the next 7 drafts.
was that why OKC did it? The pick? seems so as Walker only a name at this point. Not a very good shooter or passer (42% shooting last season) and on wrong side of 30 with an awful contract.

that is basically it

Maybe bob and tt are getting traded to fill another hole
THAT is a guy the Lakers should go after (TT) unless they can find a stretch 4 or 5. Already know he can play with Lebron and has a workable contract to acquire.

Not even if the player in question is kinda shot?

The C's did everything they could to try to get and keep Kemba healthy last season... he still wasn't healthy for the playoffs.
I think the Cs were right to get rid of him...Walker's just a name at this point.

The Kemba trade isn't all that great, but its not a disaster that you think it is when you first see it. Horford's contract is structured in a way to where they'll save considerable amounts of money. Trading the 1st round pick is basically the tax to move Kemba's contract. It sort of sucks that its the #16 pick this year because its somewhat frequent you can find stars in that range. Ideally you'd rather trade a future 1st so that part should make you queasy. Boston fans just gotta hope there's no one there that turns into a star

I like Kemba, seems like a great dude... but from a pure basketball standpoint, Walker is:
  • Aging poorly
  • Oft injured
  • A terrible contract
Can't blame the Celtics for needing (not just wanting) to fix this mistake.

They made it clear they were going to get something for Horford. Yea the picks were big but I’m sure they think they can get a good year out of Walker and parlay him into something else. They have to have a guy like him to meet the minimum salary cap requirement anyway.

Walker's FG % was on par with his career %.

You can't convince me $20+ million more doesn't matter.

yes. Not even close to enough for Fournier and staying under the tax

You know, if the C's lose Fournier... I'm not gonna lose any sleep.

He's not without virtue, but watching him try to move his feet and play defense was absolutely painful.

Fournier was almost a total liability against the Nets in our playoff series.

I’m not his biggest fan, but you traded 4 seconds for him, and you have no meaningful way to replace him.

Still not losing sleep. ;)

I'd be ok trying to develop Nesmith and/or Langford at the wing... at least they have some potential on the defensive end.

Losing sleep when I see what Danny turned down from Indiana
