Looks like the 9ers are sticking with G as the starter for now with their pick.

Eh that's smart for now. Lance only really had one flashy year and didn't really play at all last year... so makes sense to sit and coach him up a little. And then maybe they can secure some WR weapons next year.

If Denver goes from Lock to Rodgers in one offseason, that has to be one of the biggest QB swings of all time. Rodgers to Jordan Love might be equally large the other way.

I love Smith, it was a smart move by the Iggles...

... that said, the Giants landed on their feet with that trade down... I'm very satisfied with the overall outcome.

I agree that the trade down was great for them.

Some draft thoughts:

--Niners taking Lance is the boom/bust pick of the draft. Much like Smith/Rodgers and Trubisky/Maholmes/Watson, the Lance pick will be measured against the success or failure of Fields and Jones.
--Can't believe Cincy passed on the OT. Can't fault them for taking a WR who has great chemistry with Burrows though. Still, shades of David Carr, b/c if Burrows gets hit as much as he did last year, Cincy will have no one to blame but themsevles.
--What was Waddle wearing? Lapels were HUGE and he might as well have had a license plate hanging from his neck.
--Detroit taking the OT Sewell was interesting. OL was one of the team's few strengths last year, but that pick really solidifies that OL for the next several years, inside/out building.
--It was cool to see the trade down dominoes fall once the Lions took the OT, Sewell. Carolina wanted him, but b/c he was gone, tey took the CB, which forced Denver to take the other CB, which left Dallas without a CB to take, so they moved down which allowed Philly to take the WR D.Smith that the NYG wanted, so they moved down, allowing Chicago to move up to get Fields.
--Still, with D.Smith gone, the NYG did pretty well moving down as the Bears '21 pick could be pretty good
--Can't believe Dallas didn't take OT Rashawn Slater. Sure Parsons is a good player, Lee retired and Vander Esch has injury issues, but that seemed high for a LB at that point.
--Yet another year where a highly-rated player miraculously falls into the lap of either NE or Bmore. It's just not fair
--The Raiders really DGAF about player ratings. Then again, way too many of those 1st rd reaches they've made haven't worked out, so maybe they should start caring.
--Loved Washington's pick of LB Jamin Davis. Not a reach at all.
--What was with all the WRs that were well under 200 pounds? I don't see how half of them will be able to get off the LOS when they face press coverage from a CB that outweighs them 30 pounds.
--Jags take a good RB at the end of the 1st, fine, but then say they're gonna platoon him with 2 other guys...um, ok. Bad pick then.
--2 first rd picks out of Northwestern for the 1st time ever. Tells you just how good that team was.
--WTH was with some of those fans? Some of then were so tricked out they looked like team-specific pimps on ecstacy.

I was surprised at first two but I think the fact they were able to sign Reiff (who is not elite but certainly above average) and that Jonah Williams recovered last year... it was probably better to get him a weapon. Especially with AJ Green gone.

Jonah Williams was almost a top 10 pick so I don't think you can give up on him this early. And last year he was above average, he should improve.

Some post-day 1 draft thoughts:

Denver made a great move getting RB Javonte Williams, easily the best RB left on the board.

Still, even early in rd 2 seems early for RBs doesn't it? We saw Najee and Etienne got in Rd 1!

I think the Niners wanted S Javon Holland or Richie Grant and they're being gone is why we moved back with Vegas.

Niners were clearly not interested in S Moehrig, CB Asante Samuel, WR Rondale Moore and WR Tutu Atwell. I don't get it either.

Drew Pearson was not only great in announcing Dallas's pick at 44, but he was classy in handing over his cap to the Cowboy fan sitting in the chair.

Bills getting Edge players at the end of the 1st rd and 2nd rd. Damn.

5 trades in the first 11 picks of Rd 2. That's gotta be a record.

And Tampa sets off the next QB avalanche by taking Trask, with 3 Qbs going in 4 picks.

Carolina had to wait till Rd 3 to get the OT they wanted in Rd 1.

How freaking awesome was that Randy Savage-impersonating fan that got to sit in the chair on stage? He even had Randy's mannerisms down!

Vegas uses a 3rd to take a LB who just moved over from QB. Are they just trolling everyone with these picks?

Dallas going ALL defense, ALL day in this draft. After the way they performed last year, I don't blame them. This way, at least they have a chance of finding a few good defenders. They sure aren't gonna die from a lack of shooting back!

Overall, really liked what the Jets and Chargers and Chiefs did.

Wasn't a fan of the Rams draft. It just didn't make much sense to me.

Wasn't a fan of Seattle's draft, but it's b/c they keep drafting fast WRs that beat the shit out of the Niner secondary every year.

Houston...oh, Houston...I feel for ya'll.

For the first time in a long time, I thought that ESPN's coverage was better than NFLN's even though I didn't really care for Greenberg running the ESPN show.

Cards pick of Zeven Collins could be a good one. I like his attitude for sure. Here is him talking to the GM:

Steve, we’re gonna f—king kill everyone.”

I guess I'll post my general thoughts.

I think there was a group of teams that had a major issue to address and did it while also trying to juggle with competing for a Super Bowl next year. I'm looking at the Niners, Patriots, and Chiefs here. Niners are balancing getting to a Super Bowl again with Jimmy G and developing Lance. Patriots went all-in during Free Agency instead of trading up like the Niners so maybe their QB doesn't have the upside but they might have more tools to compete next year. Niners probably already had a more talented roster, though, so in general grouping them together makes sense. Chiefs have 3 one year deals next year with their oline, and traded for a LT that they'll need to pay. But they also drafted a Center and maybe a RG that should be with the team for awhile and getting back a Guard and a Tackle that opted out because of Covid. Chiefs look better to compete next year but should have more issues in the future than the other two teams.

I think there is another group that has a young QB in place, a good young roster, and drafted well. That would be the Browns and Chargers. I think they are set to compete next year and have a solid future.

Ravens and Bills look like forward thinking teams. Lots of projects.

Packers did their forward thinking last year and they are in the now with their team. CB with sub 4.3 speed a reaction to the TB game last year? Probably. Amari Rodgers actually seems like someone who will produce right away, too. Aaron Rodgers is mad that he'll have a top 5 roster next year? Good luck winning that argument with the general public.

Lions getting the best trench players in the draft. Almost exclusively. Seems like Detroit, Carolina, and Denver are a bit on the same page. Lots of value in their drafts but how much does it matter with their QB situations? I do think they all drafted well.

Bears either won the draft or lost the draft. Reminds me a bit of when the Chiefs traded up for Mahomes. I do think Justin Fields is worth sacrificing a lot for and I really like who the Bears drafted but it all rides on Fields.

NFC East to me looks like the WFT is playing to win now and the other three are still a year away. As such, one of the other three might actually be decent next year because odds are they wont all be bad. Giants seem like they are that team. Toney isnt developed but he is a freak, and Barkley is a freak. Ojulari is a steal if they can keep him on the field. Aaron Robinson should step in as a nickel CB right away. Giants able to step up in division while also getting the Bears picks make them a winner in the draft imo but they are also kinda limited by their QB, too.

Dolphins are the best set team moving forward. Waddle, Phillips and future draft picks? They had the best draft basically the second they traded down. There is a small chance that Waddle and Phillips can't stay on the field, though, but they are basically set to be a perennial playoff team....if they weren't in the same division as Josh Allen and Bill Bellichick.

He pushed off before he got to the stage.

I absolutely hate it when teams like Chicago give up a 1st rounder next season and get an A+ in these things. While the team getting the 1st rounder next year get a B+.

That pick is almost a lock to be a top 10 pick IMO next season. The Bears did NOTHING to improve on their team. Nothing. Fields as a rookie isn't likely to be better than Trubisky was in his 4th season.

And the rest of their offseason was mostly just lateral if not just flat out negative like losing Fuller to Denver and then replacing him Trufant. And their defense is only getting older.

Now do the math on how the NFC North is matched up this year against the NFC West and the AFC North instead of the AFCS and the NFCS. And their other schedule draws are against Tampa and the Giants.

Yeah that was a really good trade for the GMen. And don't place any bets on a team from the NFCN making the wild card. This year it is division win or nothing.
