The 2021 Home Opener is today, with Rangers fans getting to see the team play for the first time at Globe Life Field. I'll be at the game today, and I'm excited to see the new digs.

Conversational topic: Does Gallo's good start mean he's more likely to be traded?

I think the likelihood all depends on how JD views our rebuilding time frame. If he wants us to be contenders in 2023, then he will hang onto Gallo and make an all out effort to sign him long term. That probably means we will go hard after a top tier free agent in 7 months as well. If JD views this as a longer term rebuild, then Joey is probably traded, and we will not enter the free agent market with both feet this coming offseason.

I wonder if the development of our top level prospects between the beginning of the minor league season to late July will have anything to do with that time frame decision? If we have several of our prospects like Huff, Apostle, Seise, Carter, Walker, Wendzel, Foscue, Winn, Crouse, and Henriquez fail to make significant strides, then the front office may be forced to view the rebuilding project as more of a longer term process. I think the same could be true of the young guys who are currently on the team as well. If the system as a whole, begins to show signs that several guys could be ready to be significant contributors before long, then maybe that encourages JD and company to hope Joey Gallo can be a big part of our push to contend in 2023.

I am not for certain how I feel about Gallo. He has all it takes to be a great player but has a difficult time putting it all together over an extended time frame. Partly because he has not had much protection at the plate. He has much to prove before getting an extension imo. We can not afford another JD mistake like the infamous Odor ordeal. It is way early to know what Gallo will do and how much time does he get to prove he deserves a long extension? Let's hope he adds a gold bat to go with his gold glove.

Gallo's next contract - regardless of team - will dwarf Odors

Maybe, it is supposed to be a vote of confidence. We will see if that works.

I was looking at our home opener lineup and it made me wonder how many guys from our roster now will either start on Opening Day 2024 or be in the rotation. Of those roster spots in 2024, I would say we might have 4 guys here now that could possibly fill one of those 14 spots in 2024. Gallo, Lowe, Dunning and Cody are the possibilities, although I am nowhere near certain about any of the four. A few more might be in the pen or on the bench 3 years from now.

Was thinking some thing similar. IKF might be on the list. Not much else that I see.

Not able to watch but listening. Cody hit a few but looked like defense failed him. Looks like we are truly in a rebuild. Right?

Right! And, a long way to go. Not sure how the defense failed him.

Dunning goes tomorrow. Hopefully he can show a little better with some offensive help.

Just made it back from Opening Day. Here's my review of the new stadium:

Good:

-Concourses are more wide open
-Some really good nods to Rangers history (example: 20+ feet tall photos throughout)
-At least 5x as many restrooms as the old Ballpark
-Stadium seating arrangement is fantastic (not sure why, but it felt better than the old Ballpark)
-Texas Live is a great scene
-Had the easiest time parking I've ever had and was closer to the stadium than I've ever been (general admission, probably just got lucky)

Not so good:

-Concourses are very angular rather that full on straight shots
-There is a lot of wasted square footage throughout (hallways/areas that serve no function and are just "there")
-An embarrassing lack of monitors to watch the game while you're waiting in a line
-Staff was a little too enthusiastic about helping (one demanded to see our tickets and gave step by step instructions on how to reach our seats, and another kicked us out of a suite level despite there being no indication it was a private area)
-Seats were a little smaller than before
-Lots of exposed mechanical elements that seemed unfinished or out of place

All in all it's a good stadium. There are things that are better than before and things that I think could improve it. I'm definitely going to check out a summer game and see what it's like with the roof closed.

Thanks for the review.

How was the emptying out of the parking lots? Or, maybe that might be a better question after a closer game.

I think I got really, really lucking with parking. I will say that most of the crowd stuck around to the end and walking out took some time. But once we were out of the door, we were to our car and out of the lot in 3 minutes. We were in Lot J.
