Completely forgot about that half season with LA in 2017. Good call. Then maybe my theory is just way off and it really boils down to McGee being the cheaper option. Its still puzzling to me, though, that Watson is one of only about 33 free agent relievers left on the market.
I think there is SOMETHING about Watson that we don’t realize, though. He has always been underpaid in this board’s opinion. Do we over-value him or does he have a bad agent or ...???

And the fact that the "experts" don't even consider him among the Top 50 free agents or even count him as a top tier reliever left on the market is astounding, considering his numbers. There isn't much alarming about his numbers, outside of the way his 2019 season ended. A guy who stays healthy, pitches consistently well throughout his career and is left handed seems to suggest that teams should be knocking down his door trying to sign him. Yet, here he is. Maybe it is his agent, maybe he's a horrible teammate, maybe there is some concerns about his arm that has yet to be made public. Who knows.

A guaranteed $4 million (plus another $2 million in incentives) to a guy who cannot stay healthy and hasn't pitched well since 2016? And he's a righty. Are they going to convert him to the bullpen or going with 4 righties in the rotation? I understand the other guys signed to the rotation, since they had good seasons within the past 2 or 3 years but this one seems to be a real stretch. And is the entire rotation really riding on the hopes that these veterans can somehow all rebound to something like their former glory days and stay healthy as well?

Sounds like a perfect fit for us!

My favorite football club, Sheffield Wednesday FC, is also shit and making shit moves.

Things are really starting to look up for @pachyderm ...

He's got two elite pitches, he's 26, and well rested. This is a classic low-cost, high upside lottery ticket. Very similar to Gausman last year. They could covert him to the bully, but he's the #5 guy for now. That leaves Webb, Beede, Menez, Nunez and Tropeano in Sac. That's a lot of pitching.

Actually, he turns 29 on July 1st and yes, I understand that he's got nasty stuff. However, he hasn't been able to figure out how to use it effectively since 2016. It seems like too many reclamation projects in the rotation and not enough room for guys in the system to get a chance. Yes, I get that all the injury possibilities suggest that they eventually get a shot but I don't like squeezing out the home grown players completely. A rebuild should be at least giving one or two guys a chance in the rotation. For example, Connor Menez is slated to start the season in the AAA rotation. Why? He looked great in the bullpen last year and the Giants have plenty of starting pitching for AAA now. I didn't understand why he was sent down to the alternate site last year when he was doing so well and then left there when the team had need in the bullpen.
I see you list Nunez in AAA. Do you think they'll be able to send him down? Since he's a Rule 5 guy, he has to be dfa'd, offered back to the org he was drafted from and hope that they either trade him back or he both isn't returned and goes unclaimed.

He was on the gun at 95-98 the other day... I like this deal.

Is that going to make Solano a happy camper or a turd of a teammate with a chip on his shoulder?

Asking for a friend...
I don't know. I guess it really depends on his personality and temperament. If he's grateful to even be in the big leagues, after his struggles for years in the Show, then it probably won't bother him. However, the LaStella signing already signaled to him that the team isn't comfortable with him getting a lot of playing time (and they already have Wilmer Flores) and this, depending on how brutal the team was during the arbitration hearing (which I heard can be very brutal) could further put the edge on how they view him. Then, it comes down to whether he is focused on proving them wrong or all this gets in his head and rattles him.

My bad...Sanchez was 26 when last he pitched (2019). I misread it. As for room for the system guys...I guess I really trust FZ and you can't have enough depth. Only a couple of these projects are going to hit and if they end up blocking stud young talent then we have a very GOOD problem. As for who ends up in the rotation, let's see where we are a month from now. Re: Nunez, I'm not sure he'll get sent down or if he'll stick on the roster. Again, good problem to have.

I get the feeling the Giants are delaying making the McGee and Sanchez signings official until spring training starts for them. I believe they cannot move anyone to the 60 day IL until then and they could easily put Beede and Canario (I believe he won't be ready until May or June) on the 60 day instead of dfa'ing two players.

Do players get mlb time on their clock for DL time? Is Canario good enough to worry about that?

Yes, I believe so. I still think that Canario wasn't even need of protection this past offseason so it was weird that he was added. I don't know of any other guys who could be placed on the 60 day IL right now.

A 33 year old reliever who pitched decently in Japan but got absolutely bombed last year in the big leagues. I get kicking the tires if this is a nonguaranteed minor league deal but what the heck if this is a 40 man roster add. Another incremental increase? :noidea:

maybe. It's a low risk lottery ticket. I wouldn't get too worked up one way or the other.
