I would draft this kid long before Parsons and that's not a knock against Parsons. The above is only highlights but I've watched (3) separate ones and came away impressed by all of them. I wasn't able to see much of how he operates against the run but his coverage and blitz skills are off the charts. I could care less about his weight. D. Leonard was approximately this kids weight at the senior bowl 3 years ago and Jeremy Chinn, last years Panthers 2nd round pick was nearly the same and became their starting Will. This kid has Will LB written all over him.

Better watch out @broncosmitty because this kid is coming to steal any and all of Darius Leonard's thunder.
My biggest knock is he will be an outside, Parsons will be a middle. I think that is our bigger need

Delmas with size.

I like the Chinn comparison too.

But my boy Darius has twenty pounds on him. And tackles rather than hits. Dude is incredible.

Parsons is on pace to lose a lot of money. Right now character concerns can kill your draft stock.

Are these linebackers worthy of a top 7 pick? If not, do you trade down and hope they're there a little later? Or do you go after a talent like Smith or Chase? I really think they need linebackers, like worse than they ever have before, but where they are currently in the draft is also not ideal for some of these guys. I really don't like Parsons much at all anymore, even though I said possibly him in an earlier post.

some fans compare Waddle to Tyreke and he isn't but he's more reliable than Toney, Shi Smith, Eskridge etc

He is in my top 5 for pick number 7. Sewell, Parsons, Chase, Paye too.

Personally I like to get my LBs in FA unless we are in a 3-4 then the edge guys you draft. If we stay 4-3 I want KJ Wright. If we go 3-4 then we got a lot of work to do.

Personally I am a fan of leveraging strengths before filling holes. Just a different philosophy. While I wasn't a huge fan of Okudah last year, andbe didn't exactly light the world on fire in year 1. But he is basically our only building block with Stafford gone. If the grade checks out, currently my top pick would be Surtain. A pair of elite young CB's sounds like a good foundation to start their rebuilding project with multiple firsts the next couple years.

JMO.

But also JMO an elite pasd rusher is IMO the new stand alone most valuable position in football. QB's still get all the credit, but 2/3 of the league or more have guys that could be considered franchise QB's. With the rules changes its not like the old days when only 4-5 teams had elite QBs. So if you ever get a chance at one of those guy's you take it. I'm not sure there is one of those guys at all this year, andif there is he's probably gone by 7. But that's the only way I don't want a CB.

What in the world happened to Marvin ? He fell off a cliff this year.

leg injury plus being a kind of Ed Oliver situation being the only guy that can play on that D. I've only watched one 2020 cut up and he was eating doubles almost every play, but his motor still looked great. Without the down/injury year imo he'd be being looked at as a mid 1st rounder i'd be very happy getting a plug and play 1/3 tech that can 2 gap in the 2nd. If we can't get push up the middle and pass rush our LBs and DBs will continue to struggle regardless of how many high picks are spent on those positions. I wish there was a DE worth using that 1st on...

So possible cuts to free up cash

Desmond Trufant 6.2 million
Justin Coleman 5 million
Jesse James 2.1 million
Nick Williams 4.7 million
Chase Daniel 2.3 million
Danny Shelton 4 million
Christian Jones 2.5 million
Kerryon Johnson 1.3 million
Tracy Walker 900k
Tyrell Crosby 900k
Geronimo Allison 1 million

There are a bunch of players making less than 900k that don't have any guaranties but since we have exactly 51 players on the roster the cap space gains would be small. Hopefully they don't, but they could do some restructuring/bonuses and free up a bunch of money. God BQ was a dipshit so many bad contracts that the new regimes going to have to live with.

Arguably, there are only (3) blue-chip prospects in this draft. Lawrence, Sewell and Chase.

D. Smith might be considered as one but his slight frame is a concern. He played against NFL body caliber type DB's for 4 years in the SEC however, does he become oft-injured in the NFL ?

There are plenty of other slight-frame WR that have been productive and without repetitive injuries. The only significant D. Smith had was the broken finger in the NCG during the first series of the second half.

I understand your stance on this but the cost to get a good LB is quite extensive, imo.

I don't view this incoming draft class of LB (ie, Mike LB or Will LB) as being all that great.

He would still be a damn good inside LB in a 3-4 scheme. 32 years old now and doubtful he'd come to Detroit to finish his career outside of a boatload of money. He could be a player/tutor for whoever they draft for a couple years.

I just don't see it happening.

Nothing wrong with wishful thinking.

currently my top pick would be Surtain.

I'm a Bama homer but at the same time can give an unbiased opinion.

If he's up against a quick twitch receiver who gets separation, he doesn't possess make up speed.

He's a damn good press man when he gets his hands on a WR and can jam him at the line of scrimmage (a great one or two hand jab/stab).

He reminds me of a bit slower version of former Bama CB Marlon Humphrey.

This right here.

There's a kid out of LSU who's more 0/1 - tech, Tyler Shelvin, who'd be a great addition if he drops into 3rd day. He opted out this past year. He's raw at pass rush but manhandles combo blocks and can still one arm tackle RB coming through gap. 6'3 and 350 lbs and a lot of baby fat in that mid-section.

We need two iDL this year from the draft, imo.

It's a bad class of DE this draft, imo.

Lot's of One year Wonders. High risk.

or

Questionable SDE who are more hand in the dirt that don't possess much experience or they lack twitch, bend, agility and counter-moves.

Kwity Paye looks to be the most promising of the possible 1st round rush end but not at No.7, imo.

So here is my ?

What if these players who opted out (Micah Parsons) opt out again in 2021? Imagine drafting a player who opted out and then chooses to opt out again. Would be a huge bummer.
