Seems like BA is a lot higher on Allard than most anyone else. I think by 2024 at least 3 or 4 of our prospect starters, other than the ones listed, will be better than Allard.

Kyle Cody continues to get no respect.
not arguing against your points but BA has a bunch of people whose sole job is baseball so i would expect that their view of players and their future projectability to be better than us fans who are more likely to be a bit biased for or against certain players

I am saying that the other "experts" in their same category probably don't agree with them about Allard.

As far as Allard goes, I think he should be in the rotation this year so we can begin to find out about him. I would be very surprised to find out that he is in our plans for the next season's rotation 3 years from now though, just based on what we have read about him and some other guys.

Of course, they very well may be right about him and most of the others wrong. At this point I cannot understand anyone picking Allard to be there over Cody, but we shall see. That is what the next couple of years is all about.

I see a rotating gate this year and the next where anywhere from 4 to 10 pitchers moving in and out of starting rotation

Burke or Palumbo (injuries)are not in the list and our number one is Dunning?

Personally I think Winn and Crouse are better than him. I also think we will have a very good FA starter here by then. Of course, our best young starter in 2024 may very well be the #2 pick in the draft in July.

If we pick a starting pitcher in July, I think him, Crouse, Winn, and the FA will make up four-fifths of our rotation.

We could wind up trading for a good starter instead of signing one, but I just get the feeling it will be a FA.

maybe during the 2021-22 off-season but until then let's see what we got. move on from Gibson and Lyles first and see what we have in Arihara, Dunning, Allard, Benjamin, Burke, Cody, King, Palumbo etc this season and then in 2022 with Winn, Crouse, etc before we start pouring more money down the drain with some FA. and the same thing with our positional players: let's look at Jung, Huff, Apostel, Tejeda. Taveras, Foscue, Wendzel, Walker, Thompson etc now and in 2022

This offseason is definitely too early to sign an impact FA.

This season is a little too early to sign a FA. Also there’s really no one I would want. Next off-season though I wouldn’t mind the Rangers going after young long term options. Story, Correa, Bryant, Baez, Lindor, Seager, or Conforto. Guys that will be around for 5-8 years.
Andrus and Odors contracts are almost up and we do not really have any superstars that are with us for the long haul. It would be nice to have. I do not believe it is necessary to win games but it definitely helps. Especially with the fans and even team chemistry and excitement.
I like how the Rays and Athletics build their teams but the Rangers have money to spend. If they play their cards right and act like a small market team, with the exception of 2-3 big FA, they could build a strong team.

Maybe Allard can find some success like CJ Wilson did.. he had a good run for a bit.
Both 6’1” lefties that hover around low 90s fastball with a good cutter/curve/change up.

U

Yes I wonder what this means for Chuck G
I doubt much. It looks like they just created the position.

Chuck owns two other teams besides the Roughriders and is probably just looking for some more help.

They can prepare for it but I really cannot imagine that actually happening.

The Rangers have signed catcher Drew Butera to a minor league deal, USA Today’s Bob Nightengale reports (via Twitter). The contract includes an invitation to the Rangers’ big league Spring Training camp. Butera will be paid $1MM in guaranteed money if he makes the MLB roster, with up to $500K more available in incentives.

Butera has played for five different clubs over his 11-year career in the bigs, most playing for the Rockies for much of the last two-plus seasons. Long considered a solid defender and game-caller, Butera has used this skillset to keep finding Major League work, as he has hit only .198/.255/.294 over 1437 career plate appearances.

Rangers GM Chris Young knows Butera well, as the two played together with the Royals from 2015-17. Butera will provide Texas with some veteran depth as the Rangers currently have two inexperienced backstops (Jose Trevino and Aramis Garcia) lined up as their top two catching options. The Rangers were known to have interest in Jason Castro earlier this winter, so a bigger-name catching addition beyond just Buters might still be in the offing.
