What are the odds Taylor Hearn starts the year as a starter? I like the idea and could see him being a very solid rotation piece.
I would have rather seen him than Lyles or Alihara start this year. Benjamin, Hearn Dunning and Allard should be starting for us in April if they are healthy.

I wonder if Lyles would be better out of the bullpen.. maybe like drew Pomeranz.
Up his trade value by letting him pitch out of the pen then trade him at the dead line. He was awful.
It is a contract year though so maybe he will have a decent year. Gotta get that $$
I have mentioned that for awhile. He doesn't need to be in the rotation.

god i hope JD locks himself in his office and unplugs his phones. Sugano has until 4PM CST to select and sign a contract and he's looking for something in excess of 4 years 56M. this is the kind of stupid move JD is famous for
If we were a year closer he might be worth the risk, but we are too far away from contending. I think he will be a much better starter in the league than Alihara.

It is exciting having a decent amount of guys who are available to start. Hopefully by the end of the year we have a better understanding of who is in and who is out.
It would be nice to have 3 young guys who we can expect to start 2022 in the rotation with an expected ERA of 3.5-4.2
Dunning, Cody and Hearn are my guesses.
I think Allard should be moved to the bullpen.. he’s only 6’1” and it’s strange to say but over the last 5 years 90% of the top 30 starters are 6’3” or taller.. maximum effort on a short stature is hard to achieve over 6+ innings.. a lot of the “shorter” guys are good the first time through the lineup then bad the 2nd time then horrible the 3rd time through.. it’s understandably taxing.
Now there are guys like Stroman, Cueto, Lincecum etc... but they are not normal.

Gotcha. I think Cohen (Mets new owner) will definitely try to sign Lindor long term.
Cohen interacts with fans on Twitter and seems to have a big EGO. He wants to be the billy bad a$$ owner of MLB. He is by far and away the richest owner in MLB. $14.5 billion.
I think they sign George Springer too.

I hope that by the end of the year Crouse and Winn force their way into the discussion for the beginning of 2022. Maybe Henriquez as well. I think Tyler Phillips could be a factor late this year as well.

It will be interesting to see how Latz, Bahr and King fare this year as well. They put up some good numbers in 2019 in the lower levels. I wonder if they can build on that.

Agreed.
We have a nice batch of young talent with tons of potential. Should be good times ahead.

Baseball America's new Top 10 Rangers prospect list is out. Of course it is behind a paywall. From what Adam Morris writes, Jung heads the list and Cole Winn is very high on the list. The second half of the list includes Maximo Acosta and Luisangel Acuna.

They say Jung has a strong chance of becoming a star.

Here’s a free top 50 that seems pretty good.

I believe the Rangers will have money to spend next off-season. I’m thinking like $80 million per year type money.. then Andrus, Gibson and Odor will be off the books the following year so they really do have money freed up from 2022 and beyond. No ones under contract in 2023 or beyond..
What 3 guys would you want the Rangers to sign?

Mine would be

Trevor Story-SS
Kris Bryant-3B
Michael Conforto-RF

That is a good question. For now, I am going to say Trevor Story and Saguno. Let's see what unfolds with our prospects before deciding on a third guy. I would look into one of the American pitchers like Kershaw, but I don't see the Rangers competing for the best starters. They are a lot more likely to land Saguno.

I think I would have to wait and see the development of the young players we have now to know where our need is.

Makes sense
But a team will always need a Story and a Bryant. Bryant can play 3B, LF, RF and DH.
Jung I’m sure could also play those positions plus 1B. IKF could also be a utility player or maybe the future 2B or CF.
We shall see I reckon
