FWIW:
I always did like the Jamaal Anderson “Dirty Bird,” dance, Prime Time in his prime was absolutely amazing to watch, and you can always claim to be the team that managed to piss away a hall of fame quarterback from Kiln.

He is not and they are different eras but my point was valid. Rivers made a lot of plays ... the fact that his team sucked is not his fault.
Your point is valid. But the fact is that the HOF favors those that win big more than those that put up big numbers but don't. This is why Eli will probably make it. Of course there are exceptions, as you have identified.

No doubt that championships on your resume increase chances you get in. Rivers leads in most categories except for that. Ben and Eli each have two. There is no doubt it was a great draft class.

It is the measuring stick in the ESPN era. I don't always think it should be because you don't in a team sport without a good team. Honestly until recently I did not know Rivers stats were so prolific.

Jim Kelly is another HOFer without a championship although he played for it four times. Tarkenton is another one that comes to mind.

Except his teams didn’t suck. There were some very good Charger teams, and the record for SD under Rivers was very good.

More forward thinking involved here but at first glance I like your idea.
Generational perspectives ultimately is at play. It gives rise to great confusion and endless debate surrounding what metrics are qualifying for entry into the HOF.

As we exchange perspectives today on what those qualifications are, we should realize that, then as is now, it boils down to, 'we know greatness when we see it' and that should be enough for the electors making the decision.

Anyone else see a problem with this?

Now if there are poster's here who do not see the issue that comes with using perspective as the general metric for induction into the hall, please share with the rest of us what has been and continues to be the specific set of criteria used as
basis for the same?

Years ago it appeared to me that the hall of fame in all sports was only for the great ones but in more recent years it appears to me that standards have been lowered for one to enter the hall. Do you feel this way, or not?

Maybe it's because I'm old school when great pitchers in baseball use to pitch 9 full innings regularly and great hitters use to hit a lot of home runs before the ball was juiced and steroids were introduced and in football great QBs use to win consistently without throwing the ball too much before this game turned into an aerial attack. I guess what I'm trying to say is that with the way all sports have changed over time record breaking numbers are being put up offensively at a torrid pace. If he stays healthy, we can only imagine what kind of numbers Mahomes will have at the end of his career if you get my drift.

I could not have said it better my friend.

What we have now are generations that see "great" through a lens that's filtered through inflated numbers gained because at some point the NFL noted growing disinterest in those "defensive" low scoring games then promoted a "gotta protect the QB" policy, followed by eliminating previous defensive standards.

I often wonder what the record books would look like if previous generations were able to play under todays standards.

BTW : what manner of nonsense is it that SB wins/appearances is one measure in identifying "great" play over a career? (Mark Rypien for the HOF! !!! LOL )

I have no issue with these inflated numbers beyond putting them in proper perspective, therein my suggestions about changing the hall to reflect original play versus the modern watered-down version. (Tennessee Titans kind of excepted)

Alas, the world is changing and things just aren't done as they once were. Some say it's for the better, others disagree, but not having an appreciated standard that everyone knows as the baseline for induction into what's called a Hall of Fame, doesn't make sense to me.

Lot of downside opinions regarding the Steelers match up. I’m not there. Gotta do some research on Pitt...haven’t been following them closely this year but I suspect they have weaknesses that can be taken advantage of - with an opportunistic football mentality and play from our squad. Likely be a short week for Pitt, might have an injury happen (hope not) might be head whacked by all this COVID nonsense vs the Ravens....

Week to week league y’all. Any Given Sunday. I ain’t going the auto loss route. HTTR
Here’s my contribution to this thread...;)

Respect to you guys going into the season with everything that happened in the offseason from the name controversy and sexual harassments in the workplace I thought you guys would be distend for a top 3 pick but Ron Rivera is a strong head coach and is changing the culture there.

Given where we are, anyone out there still feel Haskins should be out there and if so, why?

I believe he should for a couple of reasons. First, Alex has done nothing that Haskins couldn’t do. His 6 yd per completion average is really weak and if he doesnt soon start throwing down the field (with effect), he will have a negative effect on the running game as defenses just stack the box against us every down. Next, Alex is not the future of this team. At best, he will be a back up and mentor to the future (at a greatly reduced price only). Haskins may not be the future, but we just don’t know. Well, we need to know before next off season.

thoughts?

Stop it.

Alex is a leader and extremely savvy. Haskins is not.

If Haskins had started all these games we would have 2, maybe 3 wins.

Haskins will not ever be a starting level NFL QB. Smith is what he is. A functional game manager good enough to win with talent around him.

Haskins is arm talent over substance. If you have to choose between arm talent and decision making skills + leadership, you take the later every time.

I think Washington would be better served by trying to trade for Sam Darnold if possible. He’s being wasted on the Jets by bad coaching and a bad system and I think he has more potential upside as a franchise quarterback than Haskins does.

No thank you.

Nope...this was a quality win against a non-JV football team. Maybe he would have won though. Maybe given the same opportunity to grow within the offense in his second season in the NFL, DH too could have developed. And while he may not have gotten this victory, he would have made up for it with at least one victory over the NYG.

Kind of reminded me of Curt Shilling's bleeding sock if you remember that.

Let’s hope DH is the future still.
It would sure be a huge waste of a 1st rounder and a set back especially if we spend another one this year
