That is what Smith does. He usually doesn't blow it. He doesn't win it but if the defense plays well and the other coach screws up as much as McCarthy did ...... I think he gets them in the right plays and runs the offense.

I agree that is what Smith does. And that may work against the dregs of the league (sometimes), but it’s not enough if we have any aspirations to become a legit playoff team.
this game against the Steelers will be telling. I expect they will stack the line and stop our running game. Then AS will have to beat them. I don’t see that happening. he could get sacked 5+ times with a couple of picks. They will bring the pressure early and often. I just hope he doesn’t get hurt again.

alex is a great teammate and I’m sure provides leadership. He has value as a mentor to a young QB and as a vet backup. But he isn’t the player to lead this team to consistent winning. Pre injury, he had some mobility. Not so much now.

Lot of downside opinions regarding the Steelers match up. I’m not there. Gotta do some research on Pitt...haven’t been following them closely this year but I suspect they have weaknesses that can be taken advantage of - with an opportunistic football mentality and play from our squad. Likely be a short week for Pitt, might have an injury happen (hope not) might be head whacked by all this COVID nonsense vs the Ravens....

Week to week league y’all. Any Given Sunday. I ain’t going the auto loss route. HTTR

I always love your optimism which is something we all need a lot more of whether it's the WTF team or the sad state of the world we live in today.

Let's talk about how we will BUM RUSH Big Ben on passing downs and create Holy Havoc on him. Let's talk about Ben's mobility. Let's talk about kicking some arse against a possibly undefeated Steelers team!

I’ve see you reference Ben’s mobility in a few posts. I got to be honest, Ben is one of the best at moving in the pocket. He may not have the top end speed of some of the others once out of the pocket, but he is as good as just about any in evading and shedding tacklers in the pocket.

My guess is TJ Watt will introduce himself to Mr. Smith a couple of times along with his friends. I agree with j_y that the Steelers press the WTF offense and try to make Alex beat them.

I am not counting the game as an auto loss. I'll take Pittsburgh and give the points. 10-0 says they don't have a lot of weaknesses. It does not say they can't lose.

As it stands tonight Pitt whips Baltimore Wednesday around 3:00 and play the WTF Monday around 5:00. Subject to change of course.

My take on DH is if he did not take his job and his preparation seriously then he should have been sat down. If he is growing due to that then that is great. I think we both think he has to earn the job. It sure we be nice to have a GOOD QB here for more than three years.

I am not convinced that Haskins is that guy and I am still not against looking at what is available in next years draft but I am okay if they keep him another year or two while figuring it out.

I said when they let Cousins walk that they had some big shoes to fill and it might take quite awhile to fill them. Almost three years after he has left they are still searching.

I beg to differ. Big Ben has a knack for dragging or having defenders hang off him when he delivers the football at times but he isn't evading anyone!

Watch and see on Monday. He moves in the pocket very well. Never said he is running away from anyone, just stepping up and around pressure while keeping his eyes downfield. And, yes, he does drag defenders while still making a play. This is why he is a future HOFer.

Big Ben, Rivers, and Eli all came into the NFL at the same time and all three of them will probably be hall of famers even though I wouldn't be able to vote for Eli because he was an interception machine.

Not so sure Rivers makes it.

You may be right and as Tomcat said Eli might not make it but ..... they are in the top 8 all time in passing yards. In the top 12 I think in passing touchdowns. Eli has a lot of INTs as Tomcat said .... that makes him just under 50 all time in QB rating. Big Ben and Philip are up there. Rivers has a slight lead in most categories.

Oh I will be watching. Watching and scouting our next opp for sure. He should have his hands full with BAL pass rush.

I don't know what kind of depth these hall of fame voters go into when it comes to making their selections but one thing that might help Eli is that he is 2-0 vs. Brady in Super Bowls even though he threw a lot of picks. I haven't checked the stats but I think Favre is pretty high on the list when it comes to picks too so that might not be a game changer when it comes to the voting.

With respect to the HOF, there should be either two separate halls or two separate sections of the current one with a sharpened emphasis on pre and post rule changes.

Records should reflect the same as well as record holders. Take note that the crossover event has been the Super Bowl with records in that event also reflecting rule changes that heighten offensive production and handicaps defenses.

I think the HOF should have been reserved for the truly best players in the league of the era. There Are simply too many.
