Feeling much better now after the Hayward loss and slow start to our FA.
Tristan Thompson joins with Theis to give the C's one of the more mobile duos at the 5 spot in the NBA. A very good Boston defense will be even better.
Teague was a necessary addition that addresses (to some extent) both our lack of veteran guard depth and our lack of bench offense. He's not perfect, but he can run a 2nd team offense and get people involved.
The main weakness on the team is now the hole left by Hayward's departure... that high level scoring and play making from the wing position behind Tatum and Brown.
Bog signed an offer sheet with ATL that idea is dead.Thinking a little bit more about where the Celtics are right at the present moment...
... Ainge and co. should be thinking win now, go for the championship now.
The Eastern Conference is as open as it is gonna be... Miami is very good, but also appears more concerned with the future than they are with the present... Milwaukee has Giannis, but has kinda fumbled their off-season... other contenders such as Philly and the Nets have a lot of potential but also a high degree of unknown...
... in short, it's likely gonna be more competitive in the future... so strike now.
Kemba isn't gonna get any younger, and Tatum and Brown are entering their young prime. Everybody at the top of this line-up has great experience with each other. Now is the time.
By my estimation, we're one veteran wing scorer away from going from a fringe championship contender to being a bona fide championship contender.
So if there is a move to be made... the Celtics should do it. Even if it means losing a future draft pick or two. The Celtics should lean in to the present opportunity.
I'm not sure exactly what that deal looks like... but something like the Bogdanovic trade idea (double S&T) is exactly what I'm talking about... make the splash now and go all-in.
We'll see if Ainge has any magic up his sleeve.

I think there's a good chance that you guys are more than fringe contenders now...but it depends on Tatum and Brown. Both have been steadily improving and have made great strides since their rookie seasons. Now would be a good time for them to take that one more step to become true star level players. If that happens (and it seems likely), you are legit contenders, imo.
Getting the vet wing scorer you're talking about would obviously be good for the C's. But even if you don't, another step forward by Tatum and Brown would make it less necessary than it appears now.
We largely agree... yes, if the C's are gonna have a good hope of winning a championship:I think there's a good chance that you guys are more than fringe contenders now...but it depends on Tatum and Brown. We largely agree... yes, if the C's are gonna have a good hope of winning a championship:
My point was more that, looking at the roster as currently constructed, there is a pretty big hole in terms of bench scoring.
- Tatum has to take that next step to bonafide superstar...
- Brown needs to keep maximizing his potential and be aggressive...
I guess it's within the realm of possibility that either a Carsen Edwards or a Aaron Nesmith or a Romeo Langford blossoms into a consistent bench scorer immediately... (all of them showed that potential at the college level)... but that doesn't seem like a possibility that's great to depend on... not for a real championship contender.
Boston doesn't have to act right now (before the season). If the right deal isn't available at the moment, the C's could wait and see how the young guys shake out and then have an eye towards the trade deadline in-season...
... but something probably needs to be done at some point, and I personally wouldn't mind if the C's dream a little bigger...
Dreaming REALLY big would be getting a massive trade exception from turning Hayward into a S&T and then following that with a trade for a player who is in the 15 to 20 million dollar contract range...... Like you said...dream a little bigger.
It does sound like the Hornets just had to outbid not only the Pacers but the Celtics as well...both were offering 4 year-$100-$108M I am hearing just not $120 like the Hornets.
pacers needed to sign and trade.
I don’t buy the Celtics part at all.
Apparently, Tremont Waters was the G League Rookie of the Year last year. I didn't know that.I would’ve rather Queen and Mason Jones

I never gave him much of chance... too short, and lacks elite quickness... bad combination... but whenever I see him play he always acquits himself better than I would have thought possible. He has savvy, is a good passer, and has elite defensive instincts...
... I still don't know if Waters will ever amount to a NBA rotational player, but he's a great kid to root for.
Tacko is just the best kid ever and a great story. If Waters is too short, then Tacko is just too damn tall... but he's also a great kid to root for... I'm happy they're both back for another go-round.
