Bell backing him up doesn't hurt. At all.

Especially when CEH may hit the "rookie wall." And Bell is a very good receiver out of the backfield and goal line runner.
I guess I look at it as there's a chance Bell eats away CEH's carries which messes with a young kids mind when he was doing well. Like my above post, I could be way off on this.

I doubt that happens with the kid....he knows he's the future.....they are just adding some depth.

As if that team needs more depth on offense. Lol

Well, they didn't have enough to beat the Raiders.
Division games are the toughest games and Raiders got a solid victory that day.

Man, can you imagine going from "I'm the best RB in the league and the best catching RB in the league and I'm worth a hell of a lot more than what I'm being given" to "Yeah, I'll take this backup role behind a rookie RB, but at least I'm on a contending team". I'm sure he'll get his ring and he'll be happy.

I don't think we really know what his role will be yet. If he manages to find his form behind a much better line, he could totally take over a workhorse role. He has every incentive to do that to, he finds himself a free agent last year. Look at what the Phins, 2nd stringer Damien Williams did when he joined the Cheifs taking over after Hunt got cut. He's the same age as Bell by the way.

I think Reid and Mahomes will find some magic with him. Of course I own Bell in fantasy, so that's probably playing a large role in this opinion.

Bell will be a pass catching back for sure but just think back to 2017. One of the best players in the league. Not just RBs, but players altogether. Now to 2018, where, because he feels like he should be paid more because of that, he misses an entire season. In 2019, he gets signed by the Jets, after taking a pay cut from what he wanted from Pittsburgh, and his first season is a season of under 800 yards rushing and just 3 rushing TDs. Now 2020, he misses a month due to injury and during the time that he's played, he's just rushed for 74 yards. 14 yards week 1 and 60 week 5. 3 receptions and has yet to see the endzone. What a fall. Yeah, he'll likely get his SB ring but, this guy could've been something for the history books in terms of a pass catching RB. But his greed got in the way of that and now he's gotta try and prove himself in a role where he'll be sharing the rock with a rookie and as a pass catcher, he'll be competing for targets with Kelci, Robinson, Watkins and Hill. I don't have much confidence in his usage at KC but there's always a chance that I'm wrong.

Absolutely but if things get rough wonder how he could affect the locker room. If they are winning, which they should, you would think he would be fine but you never know with some of these guys. I think it will be fine and just another option for Patty and that KC offense.

This. All of this. He's shown that if he doesn't get the touches that he thinks he deserves, he will complain on social media and potentially bring down locker room morale. Happened in Pittsburgh, happened in New York, is his 3rd time the charm?

The one thing that I think might not work with this is Bell's running style. He is TOO patient. That works when you have a massive OL that is moving people in front of you. But what I have seen from KC is they usually make their money in the run game on quick hitters.

This will also allow them to spell CEH a little more and make him overall a little more effective. He was playing probably about 2/3rds of the snaps and the games I saw he certainly didn't look like the type of RB that gets better in the 4th quarter yet. These rookies are still playing with college conditioning and not NFL conditioning because of the lack of offseason this year.

KC's zone run game is fairly read and react. CEH is kinda of like Bell's mini me and just does it faster but I could totally see the Chiefs putting Bell in as the closer. In the Super Bowl, Damien Williams had the clinching TD run because the Niners defense was totally gassed. Bell, if he still has 'it' is going to be that guy for KC.

Darell Williams had 1 reception on 5 targets in the loss to the Raiders. Thats who Bell is replacing. As a Chiefs fan, I'm fairly excited.

You talking about backup rb like it is a backup qb position. A backup rb can still get 13-17 touches per game in the right situation

So...

Team A trades 2 1sts and a 2nd for a disgruntled ProBowl Jets player, pays him very little, but commits to paying him a fortune in the future. This is supposedly a good thing for Team A.

Team B gives up nothing for a disgruntled ProBowl Jets player, pays him very little, and has no future commitments. This is supposedly a bad thing for Team B.

Anyone else confused?

Lets not forget, Bell CHOSE to go to the Jets and it's not like they were some changed organization when he made that decision. It's his own fault it didn't workout. Now he goes to a better organization, like when he started his career.

2 reasons chiefs did this.

Share some workload so their running backs are fresher in January

And, short yardage help
