I think Baker is in the same category as Tannehill and Jimmy G.

Damning him with faint praise? But yes, I agree with your point. The Browns appear to have a great 1-2 rushing attack with Chubb and Hunt. They just need Mayfield to game manage and avoid stupid turnovers.

The problem I see is that, unlike Tannehill and Garoppolo, Mayfield has to deal with OBJ and his enormous ego, and the expectations that come with having to feed a receiver like that. They force the ball to the guy a lot, and it isn't working.

And their defense is average at best...Jimmy G has a great defense, same with Tannehill.

Baker's role on the Browns is to be a game manager. Browns fans talk about his decision making and thats what will decide if he stays as the starter long-term. 3 of his first 4 passes were play action rollouts including his big TD to OBJ. I hate to be like this but thats not really an indicator of teams respecting the pass. In the 2nd quarter Baker showed great vision, mobility, and decision making but he was also passing to wide open guys.

I think Baker is in the same category as Tannehill and Jimmy G. Which I guess isn't a bad place to be because they both got pretty far in the playoffs last year. The Browns can win like that. I just hesitate to think that he is a franchise QB and wonder if the Browns would be a scary team with a better QB.

Burrow, on the other hand, has little to no play action threat. He is going to get eaten alive this year.

We will see. Agreed Baker has a lot to prove and if they can be that effective on the PA it will only bode well for him on the season. Believe they averaged 12 yards per in such plays yesterday.

If he stays within himself he can do very well. The Bengals D actually did a serviceable job on the Chargers.

I think there is definitely an overreaction here.

"Burrow had a great game" - Just bc he looks like a franchise QB people are going to praise him. It was an ok game where he had a lot of wide open throws but only 6 yards per pass attempt. I know the OL isn't good so he had to at times so it is what it is. Either way he looks like a franchise QB, won't deny that one bit.

As far as Mayfield, I think he can be like a Kirk Cousins. Not a bad thing but also not what you want if you want to win SB's. And I am not going to pay a Cousins type of QB, 20+M.

A part of wants the Browns to get a top pick just bc I think Mayfield isn't the guy long-term but I just can't do that....I want them to win. Certainly a big dilemma here and yesterday's game didn't change that one bit. I just hope Mayfield proves me wrong and tranforms into more...we will see. Still too early to tell imo

He's in an ideal situation with this offense. If he can't succeed with this one (minus a bunch of injuries) they will need to form plan b

Yep, that's what it comes down to and you can't wait any longer until after this year to make that decision imo. The future is now.

Yeah, noticed that BM actually was at 9.5, though he had big help with the run game setting it up. Also, Burrow should have been picked a couple of times. Sometimes these rookie QB's will come in and throw the same 50/50 balls they did in NCAA, not fully taking in the (huge) difference between college/NFL corners.

But I still like his accuracy overall and field vision. Just got to use some better judgment at times.

Burrow is going to have a lot of issues this year. He isn't connecting with AJ Green and he had 61 pass attempts and 7 rush attempts. He is taking on too much and just not ready yet. I like his talent but it might take him 4 or 5 games to put it all together.

Baker....eh....its hard to get excited about him when Lamar Jackson is in the same division. And I kinda do expect Burrow to be better than Baker by next year though I could be wrong about that. Bengals are still the Bengals.

I worry about the Bengals more than Burrow. Just hope he isn't trapped in a corner and can't get himself out but we saw Dalton (an average QB) succeed in Cincy so there is hope and Burrow has a hell of a lot more talent than Dalton.

The thing about being a Cleveland fan: I worry about Baker and the Browns LOL.

Reading the breakdown from PFF and they aren't as glowing in burrows game

Seems a little rough for a dudes second game. The Bengals need to establish the run more to keep him from having to skate around in the pocket

The Bungles gotta get more play balance. 61 passes / 24 rushes. They keep this up and Burrow will get beaten up.

Was disappointed in the D last night. Thought Mayfield for the most part looked good. But that int was terrible.

Right they didn't extend Mixon for shits and gigs. Give him more touches...that's on the coach

Burrow made a lot of short throws for sure. Baker made more down the field. If Baker doesn’t make that one stupid pick he has a MUCH better game than Burrow. But Burrow was starting to get in a rhythm. When you throw 65 times you better throw for 300 yards, a ton of checkdowns but that shows patience as a QB to not force throws. I feel Baker forces things at times, he really only forced one throw the whole game. A pretty good game overall by both
I'd still say baker had a much better game. Not a slight on Burrow as in our offense he might have played better.

I was very happy with bakers game. One mistake down the field. He has to trust this offense and not force stuff. If he doesn't turn the ball over they're going to move the chains with the backs.

I still say the Ravens game wasn't as bad as 38-6. But that defense needs players in the back 7 to get healthy.

And Vernon hurt again. Dude is glass
which we could handle if Claybourn comes back as he's played well. I might even trust Gustin/Claybourn combo over Vernon.
