I agree we will be a top 5 offense again.
While we may get more turnovers (not a high bar for this team) I still look at our Defense as a huge question mark. new players, new HC, new DC. lots of unknowns.
Until the defense can control the trenches, I think this team will struggle with close games.
I have faith in the new Defensive Coordinator and his staff.

The defense is a question mark. I really do like the addition of Diggs,Gallimore and Anae. I really think these three can be difference makers early. The one thing that can screw that up is if covid causes a shortened season. Aldon Smith,Gregory and Anae can help supplement the loss of Quinn. Diggs has ball skills though, which is something that has been non-existent when it comes to the cornerback position. Diggs IMO can eclipse the amount of picks Byron had in probably one or two games. Anae only looked bad against Oregon last season and honestly every defensive end in the country looked bad against them. Anae was a headache for everyone else. Gallimore was constantly doubled and even tripled teamed at times. He is going to be disruptive and I think he could take over Crawfords role and be a cheaper option. I think we need to try and trade for Jamal Adams

I like the defensive moves with regards to both players and coaches a lot and I also hope Vander Esch stinking was due to health and Jaylon stinking wont recur. The issue is we need to be much better than last year and with the loss of some of our best players from 2019 and it isn't even clear if we are as good as last year right now. Then, step 2 is being a little better than last year and step 3, which is the important one, is being much better than last year. I suspect when all is said and done we should be at least as good as last year but that won't be enough. If I had to guess I would even say with new schemes and the players brought in we will be better than next year, but by how much becomes the big question mark.

Another thing that I think helps our defense (and offense) is hopefully better special teams play. Our STs were pathetic and hurt us in the field position battle. Hopefully that changes.

did we change our Special teams coach? (assuming we did)
I agree our special teams sucked in all phases of it. In our monsoon game where Special teams is huge. That cost us the game.

  • Suspended DL David Irving is working to get back into the NFL.
Irving, who last played for the Cowboys in 2018, missed the 2019 season after being suspended for repeated violations of the league's substance abuse policy - including multiple missed drug tests. In March of 2019, Irving proclaimed he "quit" football. That has seemingly changed, as his representation contacted Jay Glazer, who helped Aldon Smith in his recovery and build a path back to the NFL. Irving will be 27 years old in August.

I wish him well on some one else's roster.

I believe the new DC and his staff will develop schemes to benefit these players. I'm not that worried about the defense.

I am kinda excited to see what new stuff the Defense does. Primarily the DBs. Waiting to see if the old scheme was holding them back.

They got the date wrong he actually quit football in 2018. It can be argued he quit in 2017. It unfortunate because he was a force during 2016 and those 8 games in 2017.

Hopefully with a decent pass rush and a more aggressive scheme we will find that our DBs aren't that bad :hope: Awuzie in particular is a guy that I think struggled in the scheme. You could see he wanted to play more aggressively but ended up just "chasing". I don't think he is moving to safety and I think he may play significant snaps at CB and perhaps start again. But as long as they do something to use his skill set better I'll be happy even if it means moving him to S, because he was bad last year. i feel like we don't really know what we have in him Lewis and Brown even though they have been here for a while.

So yeah, I agree with you, I'm excited to see what we do also and on both sides of the ball at that. I think the Offense could be a lot of fun this year.

not sure what to expect from the defense, but I'm sure the coaches were holding them back.

I'm expecting the two rookie corners to be players thus moving Awuzie to a nickel safety spot. The LB'ers concern me

as long as we stop being so predictable.
New Coaching has to be a big Plus. (well I am hoping)
