Guys like Rube Waddell and Walter put up modern K numbers before there were radios. There's a few who you could argue and I wouldn't put up a fight against it. He's definitely one of those.
My dad raised/coached me constantly telling me that Walter Johnson was the GOAT pitcher. There's not much in the way of indicating that he was wrong. Cy Young accumulated certain stats a bit better. He also started out his pitching career underhanded in the 19th century. Not that Johnson came all that much later - but it was different.
Obviously, things became different as different eras came about and it becomes difficult/arbitrary to do straight line comparisons to guys who pitched closer to modern day.
The way I look at it is "How dominant were you in your era?" and Johnson aces that test with flying colors. He was all but unhittable in his prime.
Jason's Deli parking lot?Roger Clemens.
Fight me.
Never was a fan, still think Mike Piazza is a bitch for not charging the mound when Clemens slung the piece of broken bat at him.
Jason's Deli parking lot?
He sure was.Warren Spahn was a great left handed pitcher.
None here either.I don't think we have Jason's Deli around here.
He's my #2.I would take Randy Johnson as best left hander of all time.
He's my #2.
And shoulda been a Mariner in his HOF induction.
Yeah that's a good call. He might have killed somebody if he pitched in the early 1900's . 6 foot 10 is scaryI would take Randy Johnson as best left hander of all time.
