It's not that they don't happen, but if you live in a 'good' neighborhood aren't they extremely rare? I'm 50 years old, have lived in the suburbs all my childhood, then in San Francisco in various neighborhoods, ranging from kinda gritty (Haight Ashbury) to pretty nice (Telegraph Hill). I've never once had anything ever happen where someone tried to get into my home, whether I was home or away. I know anecdotal, but I don't know anyone who's had a home invasion or burglary either.

Maybe that's just middle/upper-middle class white guy news, but I just don't see most of the country having that problem.
Obviously, it's more rare.

Rare chance of happening still means the possibility exits.

If burglars can get into Steve Jobs estate, my gated community is light work.

Many, Many Ceo's, entertainers, athletes have been the victims of home invasions and most have private security.

So, your zip code doesn't preclude you.

LeBron escaped the list a year ago mainly because the crew got caught before they could scratch his name off the list.

It would be nice if everyone could defend themselves as well as LL Cool J did when he beat the breaks off the home invasion suspect.

But, for Me, I prefer the lower case armed and slightly paranoid over the all caps MY FAMILY MAY HAVE LIVED IF I HAD A GUN.

.01% chance of being robbed is too high when it comes to my children.

But that's my point, celebrities and the rich are targets, I'm not.

But I get it, you are trained to use firearms and are comfortable with them. I am not, and I just don't feel I need one. The chances I do are miniscule, and I'm comfortable with that.

You don't want your medical advice and updates from Screamin' A?

Not really. They have the most security and if it happens to them, it's all over the news.

I agree with what you say about what someone is comfortable with.

Mecca is trained in using various kinds of guns. She knows how to use them and the chances of her harming anyone other than an intruder are pretty low.

Someone who doesn't know how to use a gun has a much greater chance of making a tragic mistake.

I'm in the middle of those 2. My Dad was a cop and taught me how to use his service gun (.357 Python) and his off duty gun (Browning 9 millimeter). So I am confident that I could use either with no problem.

But an assault rifle like Mecca has...yeah, I'd hit the intruder and probably a few other people and a bunch of other stuff as well. lol

I shot handguns as a teenager on a central Texas ranch, shooting at nutria that did damage to their dams. It was very fun, I maybe hit one out of about ten I tried to. Just not a gun person.

The potential for increased violent crime is a very real threat the longer this plays out.

Cops are distracted and have different priorities, many people are out of work, lacking income and feeling desperate.

It makes for a really dangerous set of circumstances.

lol

Several years ago I went to a shooting range with a couple of friends.

We finish shooting and bring our targets in and one of my friends hadn't hit his target even once.

The other friend and I look at that, look at him, looked at each other and then at the same time, started acting like we were checking ourselves for bullet holes.

I agree. I'm not too worried about it yet.

I still have my Dad's 9 millimeter (wish I had the .357 that thing was badass) and it mainly just sits on a shelf in the closet.

But I have taken the time to get it out and make sure it's ready to use. If things start getting worse, I'll be keeping it closer.

Florida waiting so long to shut the state down is going to look very bad very soon

IMO.....they already look bad.....should have shut down the beaches to try and curtail Spring Break.

People act very ooc when they're desperate.

Money starts running low, lack of food, going thru withdrawls...

The old lady who lives alone across the street is a easy target.

Especially when one of the essential businesses that are ordered to stay open in Arizona are Pawn Shops.

...says the mother with a rifle worried about crack addicts. I live alone within city limits in a blue collar (at best) neighborhood (most homes are in the starter-home price range) and have never owned a gun. One drunk showing up at my back door late at night has been the only issue (other than people taking stuff from unlocked cars) in our neighborhood. Simple fix - I now lock the gate to my backyard.

When are you going to need that rifle that you can actually get to it in time if something does happen?

What Utopia do you live in?

You didn't hear about the dumb asses in NJ who showed up locked and loaded at a guy's place because he allegedly had the Rona.....
