That is exactly why the importance placed on general testing is an overreaction ... unless you are high risk or are developing the severe classed symptoms (moderate symptoms call your PCP or hotline). There is no need of infecting medical workers by a sick person that needs no medical care due to their mild nature of their symptoms. If you suspect you have been exposed, isolate yourself ... If you are a high risk, isolate yourself ... everyone else take precautions but go about your business.

I wonder if that's part of why they are reporting shortages on tests?

Not saying that Trump didn't downplay this at first and that may also be why there seems to be a shortage of tests.

But if you have a lot of people who don't need to be tested wanting tests, that could also feed into it.

I know for myself, I would only need a test if I started exhibiting systems and that would only be because my wife has a suppressed immune system due to lupus and my mother-in-law is 85. So, I'd need to know to stay away from them.

Although, one of the meds my wife takes for her lupus (Plaquenil) has apparently shown some promise as a treatment. So she may be better off than me. lol

Your way is to assume that everyone with any or NO symptoms are covid19 positive which is a tremendous waste of resources and unduly taxing the systems we have including the medical, economic and social systems. That is a panic driven model.

Yes and no.

I think that assuming everyone you come in contact with is Covid positive is smart. However, it's the level that it is being taken to that is the problem.

Basically, folks need to do what doctors tell us to to do every single flu season. Wash your hands a lot, try to keep some distance between yourself and others and if you have symptoms, stay home.

Also, as you pointed out, if your symptoms are mild, just stay home. If they're moderate, call your doctor. If they progress beyond moderate, go to the er (which your doctor probably told you to do if they progressed when you called with your moderate symptoms).

All of this panic buying is unnecessary. I agree that stocking up a little more so that folks don't have to keep going out all of the time is a good idea.

But trying to buy out the stores because you think you're going to wake tomorrow in a live episode of The Walking Dead is a tad bit of an overreaction. lol

This is a great illustration of my point, just because people want a test does not mean that they need one. It is a panic reaction for those not in high risk groups and not displaying severe symptoms that legitimately need one. Most people at worst will have moderate symptoms that do not require any professional medical treatments. They will not require in patient care. They will not need prescription meds to combat the virus and we have none that are approved for this any way. There is absolutely no benefit for most of the population to go to an ER/UC over this because with mild or moderate symptoms the treatment is the same, isolate from others and use OTC meds for the symptoms. These people need to save the resources for those that do.

But there is general panic that is overwhelming the system and wasting resources and needlessly exposing medical workers/first responders to the virus from people that do not need treatment.

Yes and no.

IMHO the way to deal with this is to assume that you will get the virus and plan accordingly. For most, this means little more than plan on being isolated for a couple of weeks dealing with flu like symptoms. IF you have nobody in your household or are a primary caregiver for one that is a high risk then go about your business using the same precautions of a flu outbreak. If you are high risk, go ahead and isolate now. Either way, there is no need to panic.

In my dinky town grocery stores, all paper goods like tp, paper towels, kleenex etc are. empty. Eggs, bread and most food items (except for meats, frozen veggies, pet food/supplies) are in good supply (as of today, anyway).

Might have to resort to this if TP shortage continues too much after this month ends. Fortunately I'm well stocked with cat litter! :drink:

You can't blame me ... I am doing my part to keep the numbers up here. There just seems to be fewer people around to hold my beer when I need them the most ...

Just curios how many of you are now working from home or just home now till shit blows over.
I'm still working I have guys going out working but mostly one man jobs . The two office workers I have are now working from home. I can still keep the business going unless my metal or paint suppliers shut down since I have work.

I'm retired so I'm not sure if I'm working from home or not. If you believe my wife, I ain't doing shit and never do!

Legit question since you are in business. I'm thinking a lot of entities could use this time for significant maintenance/cleaning/repair, etc. I mean, if Vegas casinos are shut down, not a better time to take care of all that crap IMHO. Same for the airline's planes. I know if I was still a school superintendent, I'm taking care of all the things we don't have time to do when students are showing up.

Damn, I didn't even notice that ... mine was a wake and bake post. For some reason, I always end up around a lot of people that will hold my beer and then ask me to hold theirs.

It will truly be a miracle if all of this has subsided to the point where some normality returns before August/September.

I wish it were that easy, but I fear we have a very long and tumultuous road ahead.

The thing is if you don't have revenue coming in you really can't afford to keep paying people to come in and do repairs -clean up- organizing for too long. I have about two weeks maybe a months worth of inventory of steel to keep making things but some things need to get powder coated after we make them some things need heat treating so we can bill for some of the work but if we can't get those things done we can''t install and get the final payment which is usually the biggest one and where my profit comes from. I think I can keep running for at least a month doing things like we are right now if my steel is cut off right now. It wont make me money but it will pay the bills and the workers. But like I said if my main steel suppliers shut down I can't keep going much longer after that.

Wow, in Redlands? That's usually a pretty quiet city.

Just shows that there are bad areas everywhere. That's also usually where the best tacos are too.

I'd have gone back too.

I've learned how to make them and mine are pretty good. But not as good as the ones at the little hole in the wall taco shops.

That's what my buddy's wife said, lol, this doesn't happen here.

Honestly though, it was the carne asada burritos that made me come back, so good and so big, like a pound of meat.

I just had some hole in the wall tacos here in Florida that were pretty comparable to LA street food. Normally I would say that wasn't possible, but these were very comparable. Cheap as shit too, $1.25 for 3, I got 6 and some homemade horchata. Still no ghetto Hawaiian places here...I miss Gardena Bowl. There was also a place in Torrance I liked, but forget the name. Hell, I would settle for Kings. Latin food in general I would say Florida does better, particularly the Caribbean variety, but Asian and real Mexican food is a SoCal forte. There is a place over on Artesia not too far from where the 405 and the 110 meet called Sushi Yoshi...best Sushi in LA, bar none, place is always full of Japanese ex-pat's from Toyota and Honda. It is the one place I will always hit if I'm in LA.

Oh yeah, those are awesome.

What part of Florida? My daughter is a nurse out there and misses good mexican food.

Yeah, in SoCal it's can actually be difficult to find a mexican food restaurant that isn't good. lol

I think I've been to that Sushi place you're talking about and yeah, they're really good.

As a CORPorate Rebel, I do my own thing. If I need something done that I cannot do (or don't want to do), I'll just outsource it.

Everything I need to do is online and I can pretty much do most of it from my phone if needed, although I'd rather use my desktop or laptop. My eyesight isn't getting any younger! heh heh :heh:

I like the flexibility and I feel fortunate to be able to do it this way.

I have been in everyday this week. I almost had to go in tomorrow but they cancelled and said business as usual for MondaY. Unfortunately my accounts will all likely be down 80% minimum this month. This shit sucks.

It was South of Lakeland on Hwy 98. Looked just like one of those parking lot stand in CA, little stand, two picnic tables and an awning.

Sushi place is in a little strip mall, Yoshi is the guy's name, he is Japanese, been here 15 or 20 years and the place is full of Japanese baseball memorabilia, he runs it with his wife.

Korean BBQ taco truck is also something I miss about LA...and good wine cheap...and places to buy it.
