The reviews from Bears fans on the Foles deal are pretty mixed. Some love it, some hate it, etc.

Look, I don't LOVE Foles but I am rather puzzled. There really was not a single option at QB that didn't have a downside. None were perfect. Brady/Rivers = Old as dirt. Dalton = Has never won anything/folds in big spots/coming off his worst year. Jameis = Never won anything/turnover machine... etc.

Again, it doesn't seem like Carr was ever actually on the block either. So, you can cross that off. We don't have a first round pick. So, you can cross off finding somebody that we're in love with via the draft.

Foles is a professional QB with a track record of success within this style of offense. Who has stepped up in some huge spots and has the ability to make this offense functional. Which, when paired with this defense - could win a lot of games.

All I ever wanted was legitimate competition to take the job away from Mitch. I thought Dalton could offer that. This is a bit better, IMO.

Out of the realistic options (we were never landing Brady) - no one has hit the ceiling that Foles has in his career (nor have they come close). Foles has failed when he's been relied upon to turn around failing franchises/offenses singlehandedly (STL/JAX). However, when you put him into a comfortable system (which this is for him) and give him some talent/parts. He tends to win games and play well.

I don't know exactly what people wanted or thought that they were going to get.

I’m not super high on Foles, but he is a great back up. He’s awesome on the bench as a team mate and he’s reliable if he needs to play. I don’t think you can find another back up QB as good as Foles. It would’ve been nice to land one of the bigger guys, but this isn’t a bad move either.

Not sure what everyone wanted but the only reason Foles is a thing is because he won a SB against Brady.

Remove the ring and you have a QB with a career completion percentage of just under 62% that has averaged 6 starts per season over an 8 year career and has had double digit touchdowns just twice and has never went north of 3000 yards in a season.

Oh, that pesky SB run, SB win and SB MVP award. Definitely something to be tossed aside ;)

You would also then have to discount the 2018 finish to the year and playoffs. Where he arguably played better than he did during the 2017 run.

You would also have to discount his 2013 season where he threw 27 TD's 2 INT's and led the league in Y/A Y/C TD% INT% and QB rating.

But sure... remove aaalllll of that.

I think it would actually be easier to simply remove him from having run into two deathtraps with Fisher in STL and Jacksonville this past year (doing this would account for less games than what you are removing). Then, you have a QB who won twice as many games as he lost during his career. Plus, a SB ring and SB MVP. A season where he led QB's in a ton of major categories.

Alas, I think it is much more effective if we simply look at what did transpire. Instead of handpicking what best fits our argument.

Not tossing it aside....he was awesome in that run. And I think he has all the ability to lead a team on a run like that again.

All I'm saying is....look at his career as a whole instead of one portion of it. You have a lot of inconsistency and inability to stay on the field. That's why a lot of fans aren't doing cartwheels right now.

I don't think fans should be doing cartwheels. I just don't understand some people acting like it is some huge letdown. Relative to what? Teddy Bridgewater? Andy Dalton? Marcus Mariota? Cam Newton? Those were basically the options.

We knew that we weren't getting the answer to all of our prayers. Just somebody who could compete and potentially be an upgrade.

I think there's just as much good as there is bad in his career. I prefer the ceiling that a Nick Foles has flashed. As opposed to someone like Bridgewater. Where he's probably capable of "not fucking up" enough to get us into the playoffs. While also not having the ceiling needed to go on a deep playoff run.

We definitely need to do something up front, though. Foles had a great line during those runs in Philly.

What do I want?

We've now spent a net of 4 draft picks on the QB position in the past 3 years and what do we have to show for it?

We had not-so-arguably the worst duo of quarterbacks in the league last year (the one we DIDN'T spend draft picks on was actually one of the most expensive backups in football...WTF) And now, this season, we have an at-best average QB in Foles that was deemed expendable by another team for a guy THEY JUST DRAFTED. Jaguars fans are bouncing off the walls right now. We actually bailed that sh*tbag team out of one of the worst QB signings of the past few years.

And in acquiring Foles and paying him, we are allocating resources we NEED for other glaring holes.

The only positive of this is that we are acknowledging that we're so horrendous at QB that we needed to just say f*ck it and figure the rest out in the wake. That had to happen...but this is damage control at this point...not being proactive. It should be seen with a shadow of doubt.

So "I don't really get what people wanted"...You know, let's start with how about not seeing my team forced into a corner by having the f*cking worst quarterbacks in football...How about that?

Fine...Yay Nick Foles. Happy now?

It's not really a letdown for me. It's meh. But everyone else that was realistic was just as meh or more meh.

The depressing part is it further illustrates just how bad things are when you swing big in the draft and miss, like Pace did. You can literally fuck your franchise for years.

I prefer Foles over Bridgewater too.

One positive thing about the Foles signing is that it is escapable pretty quickly based on what I've read about his contract restructure.

So if (when) he Glennons us we can just move on...

He won't Glennon us.

At worst Foles will be slightly better than Mitch if he doesn't get hurt.

I do think a healthy Foles can make a SB run if the Bears defense is what the Bears defense can be.

Yeah, once again... you're 5,000 miles away from the point at hand and lost in "Jiddy world".

And Jaguars fans don't exist. Nice try.

Now we're comparing Mike Glennon (whose won 6 games in his NFL career) to a guy with a SB ring and a SB MVP award to his name. Okay...

There is no doubt that swinging and missing at QB's at 2nd overall will fuck you.

In an alternate universe where Pace didn't sign Hicks and trade for Mack. We've probably already blown up everything and moved onto yet another regime.

I was probably Trubisky's biggest critic on this board since early last season.
