It's fun listening to how these young guys are working so hard to show their stuff. The potential is there, just hope the coaching/leadership doesn't mess their heads up. Julio definitely needs someone to get into his head and straighten things out. I think he needs a couple shots of reality. He's good but needs to be put in his place- kind of like a kid who needs a "time out".

Maybe I’m looking into it too much but White is wearing a normal number which usually means that person has a roster spot doesn’t it?

Not sure, but it does seem like they had already penciled him into 1B.

I could be wrong but White is going to be the everyday 1st baseman, at least to start the regular season anyway.

That is what I came away with when I watched. It just didn’t seem like at the end of the year they were talking about him being the 1B in 2020. I guess I was just under the assumption he was going to end up in Tacoma so damnit.

I would say he is going to be the everyday guy at first, unless it is an absolute disaster in spring. In many ways I think they already made their mind up that he is going to play.

Its either him or Vogey, and I would pick the rookie that can actually bend over and make a pick

Im not against it at all. Just surprised since there wasn’t any indication from last year or in the off-season he was penciled in.

I think handing him a new contract in the winter a clear sign they were going to put him out there..

My thought on White and their change of thinking might have had to do with the success Lewis had in the majors after playing in AA with limited offensive production. It is just my thought that they realized even more how the AA park really messed with RH hitters numbers.

Yeah, I think Gilbert should develop well once he gets past the jitters and gets his self confidence going. Potential is definitely there IMO.

How about Timmy Lopes?
If he keeps this hitting up the rest of camp you have to put him on your 25 man roster right?

Im not against it either. I have been a big fan of Evan White since we drafted him. He will probably have some growing pains at the major league level as will most of the young guys and thats ok the M's are trying to put a team together for a couple years down the road.

I mean he got some solid playing time last year and didn't suck. He is definitely playing for a spot. He is an interesting player hes never really been total dogshit in the minors but also never really stood out, been solid. Hes been with the Mariners for a long friggin time it seems.
