The Republican takes on Schiff's opening statements are absolutely wild. Schiff was excellent. Clear, measured, punchy, laying out the case and its counter-arguments against it and why they don't work. The Republicans in interviews oscillate between setting ridiculous standards to achieve a crime and outright lying about the events, the House hearings:

"Republicans weren't allowed to call witnesses!" (One-third of witnesses called were chosen by Republicans.)
"Gordan Sondland was the Democrats' star witness!" (He was one of the witnesses the Republicans called, because they didn't expect him to testify against Trump as he did.)
"Republicans weren't invited to the closed-door portion of the hearings!" (They were, if they were on the relevant committees and had the appropriate clearance, the same rules as applied to Democrats.)

I hate all of this, because the correct answer is so obvious, and so is the eventual answer, and they're not the same answer like they should be.

It's not a coincidence that among my friends, literally every Trump supporter I know was among the worst students and dumbest people I've known in my life. Morons who fester in poverty and drugs, people who never left the farm, guys who joined the military because nobody else was going to give them a job. They profess to love freedom, although they are ironically among the most shackled group of people I know. Oppressed by their own lack of daring/creativity, saddled with debt/addictions, and married at the earliest of ages.

They believe the bullshit proffered by the GOP and their media outlets. They are not capable of critical thinking and it's easier to blame others than take responsibility for their lack of ambition and investment in themselves.

Gotta hand it to the Republicans. They are evil shits, but it's pretty masterful to somehow convince a guy who makes $9/hour to vote against a $15/hour min wage or free healthcare because a brown-skinned person somewhere might get to eat a lobster.

It's going to be a long, long wait...

Just read what he said - I'm not seeing the bullying? He joked about not knowing who she was for a split second (lame but whatever) and then said she should go study economics and then come back and discuss her proposal to wipe fossil fuel use off of the face of the earth tomorrow.

I get that some people are really, really disturbed and unhinged about this teen girl but by the same token if she's going to keep getting trotted out at every major international forum her words are fair game for discussion by people on the "other side", I guess, of what she's selling.

I agree BBB, at least Mnuchin didn't use any name calling in his tweet like the President has done towards Greta. If anything though, Mnuchin is just giving more validation to Greta by even responding in the first place. As for Melania, she's just an empty shell of a person.

Translation: 400 are dead, over 2000 are sick and you all probably should’ve closed your airports to flights from China a week ago.

Wuhan and its suburbs, now on lockdown/quarantine. that's 20 million people.
more than half of Canada's population or for you 'Murricans, the equivalent of
New York + LA + Chicago + Houston + Phoenix + Philadelphia with room for a St Louis in there too.

Well, right. The president obviously knows everything about business and economics because he went to Wharton where he learned very many things. Many many. So many you wouldn't believe.

Mnuchin still has the most punchable face in the world, though.

The parallels with 2003 are terrifying right now.

Already bookmarked all the health agencies here saying "we're ready to handle anything" when the death toll reaches 40 in Markham & Scarborough.

We should be cutting off all travel and admittance of anybody who's visited China in the past two months and quarantining returning residents before allowing them out of the airport. Why do we fuck around with epidemics.

It's his fault for not killing us all sooner, really.

/I will never get how some people think we're closer to annihilation today than at any point during the Cold War.
Not sure it is closer either but there are plenty of radical leaders at the forefront.

I think he summed it up accurately:

Rosner added that a particular concern is the undermining of the public's ability to understand what's true from what's false. "Past experience has taught us that even in the most dismal periods of the Cold War, we can come together. It is high time we do so again."

As someone whose fraternity threw foam dance parties in college, who hated every one of them and thought they were gross on their surface, I absolutely agree with you.
