the spray chart is interesting, but he's still hit .285/.361/.497 on the road. with his defense and baserunning, that's still one of the best outfielders in baseball.

He's basically averaged 8 WAR per year since 2015.

He's one of the top 3 or 4 players in baseball...period.

Although I'd be thrilled to see him leave Boston, that article is a joke.

I do agree with CHB here:

In my view, the best play is for the Sox to keep Betts in 2020, try to get another great year out of him, while still trying to sign him (unlikely) and hoping he will listen to reason. If he goes, you say, “Thank you very much,” and you take the draft pick. You do not take dimes on the dollar now, or in midsummer. No one is going to give you commensurate value for one season (or two months) of Mookie Betts.

I also agree on not trading Bogaerts. He's a shortstop with a 138 OPS+ over the last two seasons and he's on a team friendly deal. He may not be as good as Betts (especially not 2018 Betts), but he's still one of the best shortstops in the league and the Sox already had a lot of trouble finding a franchise shortstop after trading Nomar. It's not like there's a top prospect in the waiting.

Apparently, insurance doesn't cover the last year of his contract.

No point in keeping him, and good riddance to a really bad decision.


Sad about Greg Bird though. Really thought he was going to turn into something-and he still might...just not as a Yankee.

glad the Sox avoided that though they did make some pretty dumb signings a year later. Hate to see Ellsbury flame out like he did though, I never found myself rooting against him. It seemed like a foregone conclusion he wasn't going to be back in 2014 and the Yankees seemed like an obvious candidate to sign him, so it wasn't hard for me to come to terms with that. Ellsbury played a huge role in the 2013 run and 2007 to a lesser extent, not to mention he had a fantastic 2011 season.

Yankees plan not to pay Jacoby Ellsbury for 2020 after releasing him. JE would then be the one to file grievance to recover the $26M withheld by team. NYY claim is JE used outside nonapproved docs. Hasn’t played in 2 yrs

I am watching, on MLB, the 1995 Mariners. The thing I noticed was the wasn't much footage of A-Rod. Can't remember if he was hurt, didn't mention it. Alot of Griffey, Johnson, Martinez, Buhner and others.
