You don't deserve to be in the playoffs to find the best team in the country if you aren't even the best team in your division.

Alabama has been the best team in the country twice without winning its own division, and it has been proven twice when they beat the conference champ in the National championship game. So what you are saying is that even though Alabama was the best team in the country in 2011 and 2017, they didn't deserve to have a shot to play for it?

But your comment was in response to conference champions getting an automatic berth. If the conference champion gets an automatic berth then it is a play-in game and it makes the entire season a playoff that culminates in a National Champion getting crowned

Fair enough

They won an invitational. They didn't win the season. In 2011, they won a one game championship game, the same thing you are railing against in the CCGs.

I wasnt attacking you, it was a genuine question, which you didnt answer.

Correct, 2011 was a one game championship game, and i dont think that was the right way of deciding a champion back then either. Okla State, Oregon, and Stanford were all really talented teams that i believe could have competed as well.

It depends on the goal for the season. Does Alabama play to impress the committee or to win the sEC?

Thats another issue i think might arise. If all 5 conf champs are guaranteed to get in just by winning the conf champ game, you could see some of the top teams start to schedule easier OOC games because they wont matter. Or hell, if you have already clinched your division and likely wont get into the top 8, why not start sitting your best players the week before to make sure they are well rested and fully healed for the only game that matters. Similar to the NFL.

No, it won't necessarily be the top 8 teams.

1. P5 Conference Champs get in automatically.

2. Highest Ranked G5 team gets a spot.

3. No Conference gets more than 2 teams in.

So, the Committee gets 5 spots taken out of their hands.
They get to decide the 6th spot for the G5 team thru their rankings.
And the last 2 spots, they can do what they want.

Simple.

Tell me how it's all fucked up.
I could be down with it.....would like a qualifier top G5 team must be top 10 or maybe even top 15 in their ranking to qualify (with 0-1 loss).

Would also like round 1 at home of top 4 seeds.

As far as scheduling, I could see just the opposite. There would not be the risk of getting knocked out of consideration for the playoffs just because you played a tough schedule and lost a game or two.

If Virginia Tech beats Clemson and wins the ACC why shouldn’t they get in ahead of Clemson?

It would essentially be turning the regular season into a giant tournament and that’s much better than the entire season being a beauty pageant.

Win your way in. It would expand the playoffs, regular season conference games would be like pool play, conference championships would be the first round, and two teams would get invited to the second round based on how good they looked on the field.

Because they have 3 losses against an absolutely awful schedule. They shouldnt jump 1 and 2 loss teams because they won a game.

Your literally turning it into a one game beauty pageant. Alls ya gotta do is win your conference champ game and you are in. That’s BS to finding the best team.

No way of knowing if that’s true or not, so I’ll not argue against it.

If the B1G would not change, that would be their problem though.

agreed on all points, I’ll just add that’s every conference not just the B1G

So it basically falls into 2 areas:

1. Invitational vs Playoff

2. Most Deserving vs Finding the Best Team in the Nation.

does that about cover it.

You’re equating most deserving to a possible 5 loss team. That’s hilarious

No, I’m not turning into a beauty pageant. It’s literally a giant tournament with 3 or 4 OOC games to that are used to improve seeding, get experience against tough competition, and/or help you prepare for conference.

It’s hard to argue a conference championship is a beauty contest considering you have to win your way into the game, AND you have to win the conference championship.

win your division, move on to the CCG
Win your CCG, move on to CFP
Win CFP, get crown national champion

It’s a single elimination tournament that you have to win your way into. Other than the 6 that win their way in 2 other teams still get in.

A lot of teams already have weeks like that lol when they play Western Carolina, Furman, Chattanooga, Akron, etc.

What P5 program will schedule tough ooc if they mean nothing? Which program is going to risk injury and getting beat up against a tough team ooc? This will kill ooc games because they won’t matter.

Its even harder to argue a 4 loss conference champion earned their way in because they won a game.

Again, I’m for conference champions getting in, but with stipulations.
