Here's the problem for the Raptors:

As of right now, the only guys you have that have even been all stars are Marc Gasol and Kyle Lowry who are both 175 years old.

Siakam looks like he could be an all star, but we don't how much of his performance last year was due to how good Kawhi is and how much attention he demanded from opponents defenses...and how much is him actually being that good.

Even if he takes the next step and becomes an all star, they have a bunch of role players who may get better or may have been as good as they ever will be last year.

If Siakam takes the next step and Gasol, Lowry and Ibaka can all stay healthy, they can possibly be the 4-5 seed in the East. But that's not getting them 60 wins and it's not getting them back to the finals.

I think they will push against 60 wins again. This team is way better than they were two years ago when they did the same. Would anyone trade Siakam for Demar? Vanvleet and OG are going to have breakout years. Question is does Gasol, Lowry and Ibaka have anything left? I think they will also be playing with a huge chip on their shoulder as like in this thread everyone thinks it was all about KL and they were lucky lol. Lets get this shit started.

And the thing is...they shouldn't be.

It's great that the Raptors won the title last year. But we can't just pretend that they were this great team that won because they were just that much better than everyone else.

It took some pretty unusual circumstances for them to get that title. Starting with the fact that the Spurs decided to be petty in how they dealt with Kawhi.

Even if Kawhi had stayed in Toronto, with all of the other moves teams made, I doubt the Raptors would be favored to even win the East, let alone win another title. Especially if KD were healthy.

Is a team led by Lowry and Gasol really that much different than the Grizz teams led by Conley and Gasol? Low rung playoff team at best, IMO. Celtics, Sixers, and Bucks at LEAST are better, Pacers and Nets could be.
