Ultimately we weren’t good enough this year,” Daniels said. “We’ve talked at the same time about 2020 and with the new stadium and some additional resources, we could take a real step forward. Certainly, every year after that the expectation is for us to contend. That’s where we are.”

Daniels identified two specific areas at the top of their list: Starting pitching and third base. The free agent market is deep at both spots.

“I think there is clear opportunity for us to take big steps, big incremental improves in both areas,” Daniels said.

Sounds to me like the budget has increased. Would not be surprised is both Solak and Santana are both on active rosters as utility guys both feting alot of playing time and if Odor falters then he gets the starting assignment

7 years is probably 2 years longer than I would go on Rendon but it matters not. I still don't believe ownership and FO will spend close to that and when JD says they are going after SP and 3B it will be the lower tier FA's again

Only times I know of but each time pushes him back months. Something to keep an eye on.

2020 will tell us a lot about the pitching rotation. If Allard and Burke do well and Palumbo's problem goes away, that should allow monies else where.

He was worth the money we paid him. It was Hicks being on the verge of bankruptcy that forced us to trade him away. He performed as well as could be expected while here.

If he'd hit 20% above those amazing numbers we'd still won nothing b/c we sucked at most everywhere else.

That is why it doesn't make since to pay $30 mil a yr and a 7 yr contract when we have so many unsettled problems re; OF glut, 1B 2B. Tired of bad extensions and contracts. Odor and Choo have hampered the team in so many ways because of it. We just don't need more of the same.

I'm on board 100%......It's the performed 'as well as could be expected' which put me off.

A-Rod could have had the greatest 3 year stint in baseball history and we'd still never won anything while he was here.......I don't know if there's ever been a worse signing than this one.

Wendzel most likely wouldn't be available until Odor's contract is much closer to being done. That is, unless they extend the Horsemaster again.

as much as I hate to say it, but we are probably the only front office who would extend odor a second time...... probably the only one who would’ve given him his first extension too.

Yep, he did everything he could do. Ownership lied to him about not spending more on other players.
