It would have been better if JJ would have said, "Zeke, the guy our organization stuck by when he was in trouble with the league and keeps fucking up? That Guy?" And then gone on to say that we are only talking about guys who are in camp.

Those are still the words of the agent, so hearsay. Nothing more than the agent saying what he needs to say regardless of how Zeke actually feels.

Right. Get it to blow up as to put Jerry on defense.

It gives Zeke leverage. A somewhat morally corrupt leverage but leverage all the same.

What an amazing boss you’d be. I’m sure employees who feel disrespected and not valued are really going to bust their ass for you. They won’t and that’s why soooo many of the worlds top companies believe in valuing and respecting their employees.

But if you hire an employee and he don't work unless he gets paid more than he signed up for, then the employer just has to suck it up? Fuck that. Call out the employee for his antics, not the employers.

I bet every single player on that team is with Zeke.

You are stupid if you think that other players are with him. The teams best chance of the SB is with him and he is telling them to fuck off unless he gets more than he signed for.

Again, if an owner didn't honor the terms of a contract he would be sued in a heartbeat.

If the contract allows it to be ended early and has non-guaranteed money and the player signs it, that is NOT failing to honor the contract.

He keeps saying that over and over again. Stupid fuck don't get it. If the owners renege they get sued. Ain't gonna happen as the owners always honor contracts.

I have no doubt that Jerry was joking. That does not mean it was not stupid. Zeke has already shown himself to be immature and now we have a video of his teams owner in the middle of his holdout saying "Zeke who" He is going to feel some kind of way about that.

Jerry fucked up.

Yeah I don't see it any other way. Obviously it was a joke but it was a terribly stupid thing to say to a player who has shown to be a head case, this won't help matters at all.

The CBA makes it easier to hold out than to show up and leave

The agreement between player and team, and the agreement between all players and the league.

That broader agreement gives each player the right to skip training camp, with the understanding that he can be punished with expensive fine (many of which often are never actually collected). The Collective Bargaining Agreement could have been written in stronger terms, allowing the team to pursue a court order forcing the player to return or giving the team the right to shut the player down for the entire year if he doesn’t show up. Instead, the CBA authorizes teams only to fine a player who doesn’t show up — which necessarily authorizes all players to not show up.

Once a player shows up, everything changes. If he later leaves, the team can send him a “five-day letter,” which (obvious given the label) tells the player that if he doesn’t return within five days, he could be placed on the reserve/left squad list. Placement on the reserve/left squad list ends the player’s season, prevents him from playing for anyone (even if traded), and tolls the contract that he already doesn’t like for an entire year.

That’s why players almost never show up and then walk out. The CBA shifts the power to the team once the player reports for camp.
I still don't see where it says a player can violate the terms of his contract and ask for more money.

That may be the case but it does not say they cannot do it either. The key thing here is the player does not have to show up and he knows that by not doing so can result in fines and of course no salary either. The best players in the league can use this to their advantage if they do not want to be overused like Zeke is. A player can sit out 10 games accepting all the fines and no salary and then play only 6 games to accrue a full season. In other words if we are being technical about it a player only has to play 6 games to fulfill their contract.

Jerry was asked a leading question about Pillars and Zeke in jest. He answered in a laughing and joking manner and then immediately said he was only kidding. If Zeke and his agent are offended, tough shit. He has no leverage. If he sits the entire year he can then sit the following two years as well because he will lose a year accrued to FA by not playing. If he wants a bump after year two they will give it, but not Gurley money. Let him sit

Why? Zeke is under contract and the Cowboys have all the leverage.

He has all the leverage from a monetary perspective. The only way Zeke can even begin to believe he has some kind of leverage if he is willing to lose money and so far it appears that he is willing to do so. I think a lot of that has to do with the Cowboys history of dealing with running backs. I saw earlier today that under Jerry Jones the Cowboys have only given 2 running backs second contracts and they were Emmitt Smith and Marion Barber. Zeke is more than likely not willing the Cowboys to do right by him.

Yes he is under contract and I understand the argument that he should honor the contract. The problem with all of that for me is the owners don't have to honor contracts and people think that is just fine.

Many jokes have a message. I would say Jerry was sending a message.
