Oh, it's on the internet :suds:

Duly noted, but I stand by my thought that it will be higher
heres the formula good luck:suds:

Franchise and transition tenders are calculated by adding the respective tag numbers, divided by the sum of the salary caps, from the previous five seasons, and finally multipled by the current season's salary cap. Franchise tag figures are based upon the top five salaries at each respective position, while transition tag figures are based on the top ten.

but we all know there is gonna be a couple more QB contracts signed before the 2020 season which will put that # higher than as of right now.
I think it will probably end up in the 32, 33 mil. range.

Definitely higher than 26!

How is the QB franchise tag only $26M next year? It has to be over $30, no? It's $25M this year. Then 2nd time he is tagged his salary automatically goes up a minimum of 20%. I'm guessing $32M 2020 and then it would be $38.4M for Dak in 2021.

I suspect Dak will hold out if they tag him or at least if they try to tag him twice

I only went by the link that was probably out before the most recent contracts were signed. I think your math is right though so the franchise tags for QB will be pretty high. If I was him I would sign a 2nd tag instantantly....if your numbers are right and with the increases after next year we are probably looking at a $40 mil tag.

yep.
Just like
Staffords
Carr
Cousins
Jimmy G.

All were up there in the top QB contracts when they signed their deals.

Unfortunately. it is the way QB contracts work.

To be honest he could probably con Dan Snyder into giving him 40 million, there's nothing Snyder loves more than wasting money on overrated players.

Dak can keep dreaming. 40 million a year? For Dak? Come on.

if there is an owner who would spend that kind of money.... It be Jerry Jones

The issue with the tag is that it isn't guaranteed money, though. You don't get the guarantee until the offseason before when you actually get tagged and then sign it. Until then, any injury or horrific year can cost you dearly. To say he has a guaranteed 66M is incorrect, because if he has a career ending injury this year he is screwed and never sees the tag. In that case getting a long term deal with more guaranteed but maybe less over the next two years is a better option. I've never understood the Florio's of the world that say "two years of tag are $X so anything less is leaving money on the table". I'd rather have a 4 year deal with $100M at signing and maybe a bit more guaranteed for injury than a 1 year $25M and then second at $40M once I survive the first season.
Youre right on it not being a guarenteed until you make it to that offseason.

But I don't see a young guy like Dak not gambling on himself longterm.

If I were him, I'd definitely gamble on myself. Worst case scenario you are 100% free in most likely 2 seasons after this. Could you stand to make $55M in two years and then cash in?

The thing everyone most needs to consider is that to date Dak has made roughly $2.5M in his football career (minus any SEC school booster payouts). He isn't in the same boat as Zeke who has made over $20M in the same timeframe. This is Dak closing that gap in his first contract.

It's crazy that your draft position carries weight like it does for five years.

He's prolly been one of the best values in football this decade.
