Well, I'm thinking this is maybe one of, if not the worse, midseason records for the Mariners. Out of 30 Major League teams, Seattle is in 25th place. In the AL division of 15 teams, Seattle is in 11th place. Only 1 team in the National League has a worse record than Seattle-and that team would be Miami. Someday I hope Seattle becomes a competitive team once again. Too many seasons have gone by without Seattle fans getting a taste of post season. Something needs to change if it is ever going to happen. :noidea:

Fun fact: Since starting 13-2, the Mariners are 27-60. That's a winning percentage of .310. Over 162 games a winning percentage of .310 would give a record of...

50-112.

Mariners staying true to the blue.

Marco, is this the best of you? Dipoto bought another fools gold pitcher. The guy fools no-one and is at best a #4 SP. I read the Padres were looking to deal Hunter Renfroe and Franmil Reyes for a controllable starter. I think it is time M's give them a call and work out a deal for the two outfielders and an up and coming young SP around the AA age. Throw in whatever. I know outfield is our future strength, but that is okay. We are still a decade away from pretending to contend so grab talent no matter at what position and deal from strength to fill holes.

Thanks for reminding me about 2008. I'm trying to forget that year ever happened. I've probably mentioned this before but I really wanted the Huskies to hire Mike Leach after they rid themselves of Tyrone Willingham. I really love Leach and think he's the most interesting man in the world.

I do root for WSU whenever they're not playing UW. I think Leach is a good coach but unfortunately - for you - his philosophy hasn't matched up well against the Huskies. Could be my regard for Leach but the past four or five years I always thought the game would be much closer or that WSU could win.

I’m pretty what happened to him at Tennessee happened with UW. Didn’t he come to town and your alumni were pissed? I just remember he was spotted at SeaTac and there were rumors but I don’t follow Washington closely.

Well I wish I could say the same, every time UW is playing someone other than Oregon I hope you get torched. This is the first really under Leach they have a shot at beating Petersen. The only reason Leach has one win in an Apple Cup is because Jeff Tuel gave him the finger and ran the ball.

You could be right about that happening. I didn't follow the team as closely back then as I do now so I can't really recall. I remember there was rumors he was being interviewed or something, but I don't know if the alumni played a role in his lack of receiving an offer or not accepting the offer. With all of the nostalgia for the Don James era, I can imagine a lot of people didn't want him as our head coach because of his air-raid approach. Hard to say though.

If the Apple Cup was played in Pullman I would definitely agree with you. I can see why UW is ranked #14, but I don't think it has to do with talent. There are a lot of replacements and the only reason why there are high expectations IMO is because our toughest games (Oregon, Utah and WSU) are played at home. If those games were on the road, I'd probably bet against the Huskies. With the current schedule I'd put the over/under for the Dawgs at 9.5 or 10. Had those games been on the road I'd say 8.

Eh, Oregon still sucks you guys will go 11-1 with a loss in the Apple Cup.

What a great pitching staff we have. Milone has given up 16 runs in his last 14 innings

This rebuild shit isn't looking too hot right now. Errors all over the place. Scott stated his "experience" is in 'player development'. Is sure the hell isn't in being a manager and as far as player development goes, I put him at best at about par with his managing skills. :L

To be fair, a "rebuild" doesn't mean it'll take shape immediately and it could take several years. I tend to focus on the younger players and how they progress throughout the rebuilding process, so there'll be a lot of growing pains.

I mean, teams like the Astros experienced this and they are now a baseball powerhouse... and what's also very clear to me now and should be Dipoto as well is to revisit the timeline on this "rebuild" on when they can potentially compete with the Astros as they literally continue to cycle through talented young players to bring up. Their new rookie just literally set an MLB record for RBI's in 30 games.

If the M's initial goal was to compete again in 3-4 years, they'd better scratch that as the Astros have the potential to own this division for a decade.

I understood the rebuild would not happen immediately. My understanding from what Dipoto had stated when he announced a "rebuild" was that his goal was the Mariners have a competitive team by the 2021 season. It looks like Dipoto might have bought himself a few more extra years with the organization because it sure doesn't look like his initial plan will come together....at least at this point that how it appears to me anyway.

The question is... do we want him for those extra years? Not I. I don't know how long his extension was for last season, but it may not be beyond 2021, which is why he was eluding to the team being competitive within 3-4 years.

Wow, I guess I must have missed his statement indicating the 3-4 years to becoming competitive. I have to say that does not surprise me though. (job security) My opinion of Jerry Dipoto is not, and never has been, very high. I don't like the idea of playing musical chairs with GM's but, in general, I have little confidence in the Dipoto/Servais team. I hope I am wrong with the Dipoto piece but I'm pretty confident on my assessment of Servais's skills as a MLB manager. Scott himself stated his experience was primarily as Assistant GM to Dipoto, in charge of scouting/player development with the Angels.
