They could do like UGA and schedule multiple p5 Ooc opponents pretty much every year

While I agree Georgia does that well, Georgia also gets the benefit of an instate non conference P5 team in the same state. No one in the PAC has that.

The SEC uses the FCS game as a 'pseudo' bye week before playing their rivals. They typically also have a real bye week in November, so that gives them 2 weeks to get healthy before playing their rival.

I don't understand Colorado doing it though. Do they even have a PAC 12 rival yet?

Most SEC teams don’t have an actual bye in November, do they?

Highest attendance record was Michigan @ Utah. Y'all tell me...

And that record belongs to Tennessee vs Virginia Tech by a mile.

Some of them used to. Haven't checked their schedules lately.

Edit: Alabama has a bye November 2nd and plays Western Carolina November 23rd.

Essentially 2 byes in November.

@ralphiewvu

Feel free to check others, but it's always been common practice in the SEC.

Apples/Oranges. Reading Comprehension. Context. It matters. When you're replying to a post know what the fuck you're replying to...

Bless your heart, the context was attendance for weak OOC matchups and I pointed out that the record was broken by a mile by two teams that were not as good as Michigan or Utah in the respective seasons. Sorry to hurt your feelings on the record now being in my home town.

Wasn’t sure, that’s why I asked honestly. That’s crazy they can still have an actual bye in November. You’d think they’d space it out more. But then again I guess most teams have 2 byes a year now. Shit, I wished we saved one of our byes for November.

The down side to a bye in November is that it disrupts your practice/game schedule in the thick of the conference race. Teams can come off a bye weak flat or rusty and you don't want that in the home stretch. I really want to believe that there have been several cost benefit analysis on this given the sheer amount of money on the line. There would be benefits for either but the system seems to work out well for us.

I see what you are saying but the home stretch is basically one game, the rivalry game. Byes in November seem a bit ridiculous but since everyone has two now it really doesn’t seem out of line. I absolutely hate that we have a freakin bye in September.

For us it is two, Georgia and Alabama, within three weeks. Both are either away or home games for any one season. Back before the SEC expanded for a CCG, Florida was the other November game in Amen Corner. I understand the good a bye would do, but I prefer being able to get the players limited work while maintaining the weekly team routine.

Most PAC 12 teams are always looking for "a home and home series", especially with a SEC team.

Home and homes are better for the fans and even for the players but neutral site one offs at the start of the season is better for the schools' budgets and exposure.

Yeah I support you're right, nevertheless as an Oldtimer I miss the "home and home" series, as many fans do.

Me too and I also miss the old fashioned defensive slugfests. I still would rather see a 7-3 game where the D is outstanding as watch a 49-48 game where to O is outstanding.

Well I’m with not playing them at all. But that has to be a nation wide rule, not just a certain conference rule. Which I doubt will ever happen.

Th FCS schools will not allow it.

That was tried before in an underhanded way. Schools could only count a win vs an FCS school for
bowl eligibility only once every two years.

The FCS schools raised hell about that. FCS schools are DIVISION 1 in all sports except football.
They get an equal vote at all NCAA meetings. The P5 would get voted down on everything that they wanted
to do. Forget the P5's breaking away from the NCAA, because that ain't gonna happen.

The FCS/Mid Majors already have one big win over the P5 schools in basketball, by pooling their vote.

When the NCAA expanded the playoff field to 4 play-in games. The NCAA's first suggestion was to have
8 small mid-major leagues play-in for the 4 16th seeds. The smaller schools voted that down and countered
with having 4 play-in games for the 12th seeds. They compromised and the First Four in Dayton plays for
2 16 seeds and 2 12 seeds.

You are not going to be able to get away from scheduling those people.
