The writer has told the show runners how he plans on finishing the books. So, while it's not a guarantee, I would guess the books will end with Sansa as queen of the North.
No one's really sure how much he told them or even how much he knew when he told them. He makes this up as he goes. I read somewhere that what the show runners did was basically ask his questions like "where does Sansa end up" and "where does Jon end up". Some endings were left more open than others. If I had to guess I would say that Martin fucked up Dany's story line and the show runners made it worse trying to squeeze things in.

LOL. A good number of people think the storylines went downhill after they went past his books.

I would say the Daneryus story line was my favorite. (Arya 2nd) Having her as a good and righteous Queen could have been an reasonable ending but it's not a surprise it didn't end that way.
I like Daneryus story until they fist-fucked it in front of millions of viewers. It's really unforgivable how they handled that. And I'm not sure if that's on Martin or the show runners or both.

I think broadly, yes.

But Martin will do a better job of showing the journey than D&D did.

It was a huge leap from Dany burning evil people and enemies, to burning half a million innocent city dwellers. I expect it to still happen, but I want to see the long path Martin takes to get her there that we didn't get in the shortened show.
Agreed. Except I'm completely done with Martin. I really don't care what he has to say since he wants us to wait decades for him to say it. Speak or shut the fuck up and go away.

I guess it's possible if I'm still alive when he finishes the books I might pick them up second hand. I will not read the next book until the last one comes out though. He's wasted enough of my time. I think I started these things in 1999? Something like that?

Apparently neither did any of his "sisters" or best friend since they could have said something right then and there. The broken one only made the trip so he would be king, well, he had the spoilers and knew everyone did what they did so he can get the crown.

I would have at least thought it would have kept him out of prison.

Apparently they retained the grey worm as master of war when he was really the only one who wanted Jon killed?

I think Grey Worm represented the Unsullied and the Dothraki who probably would have wanted Jon Snow executed.

And of course the North wanted him free.

Not surprisingly many were probably tired of war at least to the point where if a reasonable compromise could be found it was worth taking.

Makes enough sense to me.

He better fucking not. I want the real fleshed out story.
What are we going on waiting for this book? Eight years? Maybe he releases it in year nine. Then what... 10-12 years for the last one? You think an old lazy fat guy is going to live to be what, 80 and still write? Fat guys don't live that long. I know. I come from a long line of proud lardass'. I have zero faith that this series gets finished by him.

LOST painted itself into a corner by blatantly lying to its viewers. "No, it's not Purgatory!" they told fans early on. Several style-but-no-substance episodes later, in the finale, the big reveal is yeah, it's been Purgatory all along. About the only worse way to treat your fans is the St. Elsewhere / Life on Mars ending, where the show admits that everything you just saw was a fake plot line in the mind of an autistic / computer.
It wasn't purgatory all along. I have no idea how that was your take away. They literally had Christian tell you as much in the final episode.

Itssokay. I got a ton of books I want to read. If he gets to it, I'll be happy.

I'm reading Starship Troopers right now, and I want to get to the response 'Forever War' books after that.

Then Stormlight Archive, then Mistborn. I'll never run out of things to read. But if he releases his final books, I'll happily snap them right up.

I don't think the end was bad. My only real non-trivial complaint is their handling of Dany's story arch. It made no sense and it was dishonest. And that's a BIG fuck up IMHO. It almost ruins everything else.

That being said it's the ending that we have. This is Martin's fault. That lazy fat hobbit can fucking die.

And then any simple Google search could show you what Lindeloff had to say also.

I didn't know though until I read today that the whole "sideways world" arc was because they had to add a season because ABC overbooked it overseas

A rose by any other name.

The Island wasn't Purgatory (in the early seasons), but the last couple seasons were. It existed for the same purpose as Purgatory.

It was Urgatorypay.

Starship Troopers any good? Have you read the Expanse? If not add it to your list.

Stormlight and Mistborn are very good. Both by an author who is currently active.

Starship Troopers is a really interesting novel. Very different from the movie (which satirizes the whole thing really). It's mostly the author talking his philosophy of what he thinks society should be, very Spartan-like. There is some controversy to that, with charges of it promoting fascism, which is why I want to read Forever War next.

I thoroughly disagree but even though the show is pretty old think it's bad form to fully discuss it in this thread I suppose.

Yes, yes they were. In hindsight I don’t mind that I read these spoilers. It prepped me much for what was coming and helped me enjoy the last episode more than most did.
I had to rewatch episode 5 again without being angry and it was otherwise a very entertaining episode.

well, they came once, I am not sure if anyone knows where they came from or why they started, just that when they do return, they will be coming from that direction.

The no wife, no girls allowed, then having the place full of women and children though. He had to leave there to get laid and protect women and children?
The guy who sent Jon there does.
