I think Hughes is a good fit for Minnesota. Target Field gives up far fewer home runs to lefties than YS3.

coming over from the Rangers forum....I just saw that you guys signed Hughes to a 3 year/$24 mil contract. I was wondering what you guys thought of this deal?....I personally think it is excessive for a guy who IMO is barely a 5th starter. It is not so much the amount of money but the years is what surprised me, I expected him to sign a 1 year deal. I guess from the Twins perspective he is still only 27 years old so if he happens to figure it out while on this contract he would be a trade candidate to flip for specs and would hold a higher value because he is under contract for multiple years. Not to mention it is a more pitcher friendly ballpark, I just did not expect him to be offered the years.

Does anyone else think he should be tried out as a closer? I feel like when I have seen him start, his first 2-3 innings are really good and then he just blows up after that. Idk if fatigue starts to set in for him after that or what, but I think he might be a solid closer if put in that role. I think he has the electric fastball and focus/attitude to be able to come in and pitch 1 solid inning to close out games. That is just my opinion though.

In a bigger ball park than the whiffle ball stadium in the Bronx, Hughes will fit in just nicely. Nice signing by the Twins.

PC - Now Gardy signed Hughes, Gardy is spending money like a drunken sailor! I wonder if Mr. Ryan and the Pohlads know about this? Maybe those guys on Fox are right about giving Gardy the boot, after all (lol!) I'm not sure about Gardy's ability to find good players after the last few years.

What does Mr. Ryan do anyways??

Later!

Yeah, they are spending which is nice to see them showing some initiative. I like the Hughes signing. It will be nice to see some different faces in the rotation other than the same old guys who we have been waiting on to step up.

Sounds like Hughes will possibly be the number 2 starter after Nolasco. Then I suppose Deduno and maybe Pelf if they re sign him. Not sure where Baker is at or if Diamond makes it in. Correia could still be good for eating up some innings as well.

All in all a nice little face lift for the rotation to get us by until the young guns start coming up from the minors.

Also still have Worley which I keep forgetting. If he can get back to form he could make an impact.

More arm options are definitely better than less.

Yup! I'll just wait for Spring Training and go over there every other day to watch the new guys loosen-up. I was there last year watching a new Tommy-John signee warming up, his name now escapes me, and I was shocked at how hard he was throwing. Sure enough, he blew his arm out that day and I believe he is now out of baseball. The Twins paid him $400,000. Hope these guys all pan out. It's a long, hard climb back into contention for the Twins, I don't expect much for years to come. Oh well!

Baker is long gone lol.

And Corriea is definitely one of the 5 starters.

Catchers are flying off the board! Brain McCann to the Yankees and it sounds like AJ Prickzynski is going to the BoSox so thankfully we can stop talking about that. BoSox will probably be looking to move Salty though so maybe that would be an option? :noidea:

do you guys like this Pinto kid?...I have a draft coming up...he seems like he hit pretty well for a catcher in the minors?

Just trying to figure out why you guys are hoping to get a FA catcher instead of running with this kid?

Sounded like Zumaya to me.

PC - I think you got that one for me! The other guy I had stuck in my brain somehow was "Jason Marquis" but I kept coming up with Marquis Grissom. I think after his stint with the Twins, Jason Marquis blew out his arm somewhere else, but it definitely was Zumaya I saw that day, as I looked the incident up on line. Doesn't matter anymore, anyways, he gone!

Good memory, there PC!

I like Pinto's offensive potential a lot.

He sure is a lot better than the ass that is Chris Hermann.

I like Pinto. It would be nice however to have other options available.

Pinto has shown promise but has not yet proved himself imo.

Just a stupid signing.

If we actually give Mike Pelfrey 6 mil a year for two years I will flip my shit.

We don't want to give Garza 4 years cuz of injury concerns

But will give Pelfrey 2 years 12 mil when he sucks AND had tommy john?

Good lord.

Well said! I got nothing against Kubel, he "was" a good Twin, but he's lost his moj' since they dumped him. Like Garza & Pelfrey, it's now "been there, done that." If you're going to resign cast-offs, why do you get rid of them in the first place? Isn't it a bit like re-marrying an ex? All she does is come back two-years later, uglier, meaner, and fatter (and she still won't gulp either!).

The Twins F.O. is simply clueless on how to get back on track to being at least a Division winner. The Twins are just repeating the same signing mistakes over and over and over. It is the Front Office, not the manager that is controlling and ruining this team. Makes you wonder if the whole MLB is just a scam to rip-off us fans, you know, pretending to really be trying to win, but secretly divvying-up a monster pot of dinero each year with the other owners. What did they used to call it? Collusion??
